As a Sustainable Sourcing Manager - Material Optimization & Design for Manufacturing, you will play a critical role in driving our company's commitment to sustainability by identifying opportunities to reduce material usage and optimize products with advanced design for manufacturing (DFM) techniques. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering principles, material science, and manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for developing internal best practices with our Product Design teams and for liaising with suppliers to ensure they have the capabilities to implement proposed efficiencies. Your expertise and dedication will be crucial in supporting our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our products through responsible sourcing and design engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough analyses of existing product designs and manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for material optimization (ex., lightweight) and waste reduction.
Collaborate with product development teams to integrate sustainable design principles and develop innovative solutions that minimize material usage while maintaining product integrity and performance.
Utilize advanced engineering software and tools to implement design for manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure that product designs are cost-effective, easily manufacturable, and meet quality and safety standards.
Establish and maintain design guidelines and best practices that promote sustainable product development and manufacturing processes.
Work closely with suppliers to assess material and process options, promote the use of environmentally friendly materials, and optimize supply chain processes for reduced environmental impact.
Conduct regular assessments and tests to validate the performance, durability, and manufacturability of optimized product designs.
Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and advanced manufacturing techniques to improve product designs and manufacturing practices continually.
Collaborate with the internal sustainability team to track and report key performance indicators related to sustainable polymer sourcing as they contribute to the company's overall sustainability initiatives.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
5+ years of experience in product design engineering and/or design for manufacturing (DFM), with a focus on material optimization and waste reduction.
Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools for product design engineering and analysis.
Solid understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and their environmental implications.
Familiarity with sustainable design principles, life cycle assessment (LCA), and environmental regulations related to product manufacturing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and implement innovative solutions for material optimization and efficient manufacturing.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
