System One is actively recruiting for a Mid-Level Accountant for a contract position working a hybrid schedule out of Denver, CO.
The Accountant will be working within the commonalities space within the commercial accounting group. This team performs commercial accounting for the Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico regions.
Accountant Responsibilities: - Preparation of monthly journals for billing, general ledger oversight and audit responses.
- Reconciles accounts.
- Prepares financial statements including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flows.
- Provides guidance on cost accounting issues. Responsibilities also include analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
- May include tax and cost accounting.
- Able to interact effectively with internal and external clients.
- F irst focus would be on our Texas and New Mexico wholesale billings process.
- Essentially, we have about 5 municipalities that we provide energy to, and this role would be focused mostly around ensuring that the energy that we charge them for is accurately recorded as well as reporting various associated reporting requirements.
- Day-to-day process is standard during the month end close; there's longer days on the first, second and third business day of the month. The second part, or middle part of the month is focused on the various reporting requirements. The focus is on reporting components; compiling information, analyzing it, verifying that it's accurate, and then providing that to other teams within the organization who will then calculate rates that we will include on the billing in the next month. Finally, towards the end of the month is gearing up for that month end close, getting our estimate process together and things like that.
- Supporting 5 municipalities in the Texas region.
- Will work with counterparties and will have some external communications to provide final reporting and resolution to questions and inquiries from a utility aspect, not to our retail customers.
Accountant Requirements: - Experience with journal entries and invoice processing
- Heavy reporting experience
- Microsoft Excel experience is extremely important.
- SAP (ECC; journal entries, general ledger, reporting) experience is also required for this role.
- Team is pushing towards some of the automation tools like Microsoft PowerSuite and Alteryx.
- Experience with automation tools is preferred.
- CPA certification a plus, however, not required.
- Seeking a candidate that is naturally curious; looking for people that are going to question the status quo and can act as a change agent.
- 2-4 years of public accounting experience on the audit side of things or 4-8 years CPA/accounting experience.
- Willing to look at less experience if they had a CPA, Masters, and/or experience working with the BIG4.
- Regulated utility experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with automation tools like Microsoft PowerSuite and Alteryx is preferred.
- CPA, Alteryx certification would go a long way.
- Regulated utility experience is very nice to have
Worksite Location: Denver, CO
Daily Schedule: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with flexibility on either end due to month end, etc.
Hybrid Schedule: Onsite 3 days per week, however, if the month end falls during those 3 days, the team works remotely.
