Jacobs has partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. While the majority of work is directly in support of LaRC, other industry partners and Government agencies may be supported at remote sites The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering (OME.

Job Description

• Serve as an onsite technical resource of electrical infrastructure systems and equipment, with an emphasis on practical field operation
• Ensure appropriate cross-functional collaboration between local electrical team and applicable local and global teams
• Contribute to electrical safety program for site
• Plan resource, author or approve work procedures to cover electrical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on assessing & mitigating personnel, critical systems and operational risk
• Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of electrical equipment
• Oversee electrical system configurations and component upgrades to ensure system integrity is maintained and that all modifications to existing systems are in compliance with best practices, including change control processes
• Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) oversight of construction projects & maintenance activity
• Lead and/or participate in root-cause analysis activities in area of expertise
• Provide training to Critical Facility Engineers and other cross functional teams on electrical equipment, systems, procedures, and changes

Job Duties

• Serve as an Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) at the NASA Langley Research Center. The Electrical SME will be a part of the Facility Operations team and will be responsible for being the electrical system technical operations expert. The Electrical Subject Matter Expert will need to have a broad understanding of electrical system and equipment function and will be responsible for procedure-based operations, electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and project oversight. The candidate will need to be experienced in Low Voltage & High Voltage power distribution, electrical protection & controls systems, UPS and battery systems, electrical testing, applicable electrical codes and standards, and have a basic understanding of mechanical systems. Other duties as assigned.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Qualifications:  U. S. Citizenship required. Minimum of two (2) years college or vocational training in area of specialty plus fourteen (14) years relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education/experience for a total of sixteen (16) years. Demonstrate leadership ability and good communication skills are required. 

Essential Functions

Work Environment:
Office environment. (20%). Test/Industrial Environment – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. (75%) Travel between facilities and test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations. (5%)

Physical Requirements:
Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required (50%). Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like (20%). Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs (30%).

Equipment and Machines:
Facility operations display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control/HMI. Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%) Attendance Regular attendance mandatory (100%) Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (<20%) Travel required (<<5%)

Other Essential Functions:
U.S. Citizenship required. A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.
