Job description
Our law firm is seeking a family attorney who can assist our clients in navigating the sensitive legal issues of family law, including child custody, child abuse, and domestic violence. Jobseekers should be equally familiar with prenuptial agreements, divorce, alimony, child support, and real estate, and be able to effectively engage in oral debate and negotiation even in highly stressful and emotional situations. Responsibilities: • Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation and forming a strategy for a plan of action • Collaborate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move files through the civil litigation process • Represent clients in court proceedings as needed • Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, judgements, and orders for a high volume of cases • Organize and maintain client files to ensure they are kept current • Develop a strategic approach and provide leadership and direction to paralegals and legal assistants • Manage full case-handling responsibilities from inception through resolution • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on issues relating to ongoing or potential cases • Draft and review initial pleadings, motions, briefs, and other pleadings • Appear in Court to represent clients • Prepare clients and cases for trial • Interact with clients and work with experts • Cultivate relationships with the firm's existing and future clients Qualifications: • Active member of the ABA (American Bar Association) • 4-year degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are necessary for this position • Great negotiation and communication skills, particularly in stressful and emotional situations • Prior work or studies in criminal justice preferred • Proven record of success in advocating for plaintiffs and defendants • Licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia • Must have at least three years of family law litigation experience (This is non-negotiable) • Excellent writing and oral communication skills • Must be familiar with Google Drive and G-Suite products Preferred Qualifications: • Criminal and/or Personal Injury law experience is highly desired • MyCase (case management system) experience is highly desired About Company: The Murphy Law firm was acclaimed #15 out of 500 of the fastest-growing law firms in the country with 538% growth in 2022!
