Reporting to the Manager, Operations & Maintenance Execution ,the Superintendent, Mine Operations & Maintenance Execution is responsible for the mine operations and mobile maintenance subfunctions. This superintendent is accountable for growing a diverse and capable team which is able to consistently meet schedule and targets, safely. Schedule is an uneven rotation; 2 weeks on-site, 1 week off-site.
Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Manage the safe execution of mine operations and maintenance to meet the shift plan and ensure assets are operated safely, with care and within the design specifications
- Ensure jobs are planned, risk are managed, and critical controls are in place and verified as effective
- Support the variance management process by communication variances and working with the integrated production team on response plans
- Manage the delivery of Mine Operations Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned to industry best practices
- Work collaboratively with the Continuous Improvement Team to identify, evaluate and implement opportunities and initiatives related to productivity, schedule acceleration, cost reduction and safety improvements
- Ensure operator care round compliance and develop actions from the care rounds to improve mine and maintenance performance, and standards
- Demonstrate rigor in incident investigations to ensure contributing factors are identified and robust controls are implemented to mitigate risk and prevent re-occurrence
- Participate in the development of the operational budget and manage costs associated with the execution activities
- Review, provide input, and approve weekly, monthly and quarterly plans to ensure that the mine operations team is in alignment and committed to deliver the plan
- Ensure operational feedback loops are established to communicate learnings from plan execution to applicable planning and asset management teams to support future planning improvements
- Contribute to, and support the refinement of the Management Operating System (MOS) specific to mine production and maintenance activities which integrate with mine-wide MOS processes
- Consult and provide input to plan deviations that require escalation in order to develop an immediate response plan
- Coach and develop Frontline Leaders on ensuring safe work planning practices are in place and utilized before work begins, during work, and as conditions change. Ensuring hazards are effectively managed in the workplace
- Oversee team development including assessment of team performance, professional development discussions, learning and growth opportunities, training requirements and succession planning
- In the absence of the Manager, the incumbent may assume the role to provide rotational coverage
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in technical field applicable to mining or mining related activities, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Minimum ten (10) years working in an industrial environment with strong knowledge of surface mining operations and/or maintenance
- Experience in managing operational teams
- Demonstrate ability to work as part of an integrated operational team
- Highly motivated team player with ability to develop strong relationships across multiple operational disciplines
- Strong communicator, able to communicate clearly and concisely with key stakeholders
- Ability to understand primary business targets and production plans, and identify the critical path to achieve those commitments
- Experience in coaching and mentoring direct reports with a focus on capability development and succession planning
- Demonstrate ability to continuously improve operations and team performance
- Exhibit courageous leadership in providing guidance in a variety of situations
- Efficiently work under high pressure situations and embed effective time management in execution of responsibilities
- Advance computer skills, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications
