West Chester University’s Division of Student Affairs invites applications for the position of Area Coordinator (AC) for Residence Life and Housing. This full-time temporary appointment is for at least thirteen (13) months which include benefits and residential on-campus housing.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Education, the Area Coordinator (AC) promotes learning and development for as many as 2,500 students living in on-campus residence halls and apartments; maintains the daily operation for three to five residence facilities; and supervises graduate and undergraduate student staff. This position resides on campus. 

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills; a genuine commitment to student success; and experience working with a diverse college student population. 

Responsibilities Include: 

• Cultivate a positive and engaging living environment that fosters a sense of belonging and enables students to build positive relationships
• Provide oversight and implement co-curricular and community-building programs aligned with the Residence Life and Housing engagement plan, curricular approach, and strategic plans of the department, university, and division
• Maintain daily communication with direct reports regarding task delegation, responsibilities, and ongoing progress
• Organize training and in-service sessions for department student leaders, including recruitment, selection, and training for fall, spring, and summer terms
• Serve as a University Hearing Officer for conduct meetings and misconduct cases, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Care and Community Standards/or the Office of Student Conduct Facilitate weekly area staff meetings and regular staff one-on-one supervisory meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration
• Review reports from incidents or CARE to ensure appropriate follow-up with direct reports on a regular basis
• Train graduate staff on effective coaching and staff development techniques and address higher-level disciplinary concerns within the assigned area
• Maintain high visibility and availability by attending community events, regularly touring assigned buildings/areas, and interacting with residents
• Manage all openings and closings of the assigned residential area, including student check-in and check-out during all semesters, including summer
• Provide support and intervention to assist in-hall staff in mediating, managing, and resolving crisis incidents and conflicts
• Participate in the rotation of on-call responsibilities throughout the entire year, including summer
• Conduct frequent walkthroughs of assigned buildings/areas to monitor, document, and communicate concerns related to facilities, such as safety and security, housekeeping services, maintenance, and keys
• Enforce rules and regulations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct, WCU occupancy agreement, and USH lease agreement
• Live on campus
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree 
• Two (2) years of postgraduate experience with student or professional staff supervision
• Availability to work frequent evening and weekend shifts
• Availability to participate in on-call duty rotation and to arrive at campus as required in emergency situations

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Student Affairs or related field
• Experience in residence life or residential education in a higher education setting
• Experience working within a public-private partnership or in a residential program
• Experience with assignment management software such as The Housing Director or StarRez
• Experience with case management software such as Maxient
• Experience ensuring compliance with federal mandates including ADA, FERPA, TIX, and VAWA
• Crisis assessment and intervention experience

Salary and benefits are dictated by the State College and University Professional Association (SCUPA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.
