Matrix Providers is hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at the Navy Medicine Readiness & Training Unit, Groton, CT
- Setting: Substance Abuse Clinic
- May provide additional services in the Psychological Health & Traumatic Brain Injury Division
- Compensation: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour
- Sign on bonus eligible role.
- Schedule: Monday - Friday
- 40 hours per week
- No nights
- Hours scheduled between 6:30 AM and 5PM (8 hours + 30 or 60 minute uncompensated lunch)
- 2 Saturdays per month may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications for Substance Abuse Counselor:
- Certification/Licensure: Possess and maintain a National Certification Credential by one of the following:
- The National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors
- The International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse
- Completion of the Navy Drug and Alcohol Counselor School (NDACS) that lands to a Navy Certification as a Navy Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor
- Or possess a current and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Addictions Counselor in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Island
- Additional Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) hands on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience: One year of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor after graduation
Core Duties:
- Perform a full range of Certified Addiction Counselor duties, in accordance with assignment and consistent with the scope of practice for profession, including but not limited to, medical care treatment and patient education in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
- Obtain or provide relevant information that will facilitate treatment and assist in developing programs.
- Provide assessment of substance abuse and addiction.
- Identify and document medical consequences of alcohol and other substance use, including withdrawal and detoxification.
- Facilitate the placement and management of patients in appropriate levels of care within the continuum of care model of the treatment of addictive disorders
