Job Summary
Provides resettlement and support services to qualifying refugee clients in accordance with contract, organization and accreditation standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess US Tie's and co-sponsor's ability to assist in resettlement services and to comply with Operational Guidance.
- Coordinate all pre-arrival case activities, including housing arrangements and communications with US Ties and co-sponsors.
- Complete home safety inspections. Furnish homes with furniture and required supply items.
- Conduct initial airport reception and home safety orientation for arriving refugees.
- Provide initial orientation and develop resettlement plan for new clients. Conduct ongoing cultural orientation and complete assessments demonstrating clients understanding and information retention.
- Complete applications for Social Security card, public benefits and other applicable registrations within the required time periods.
- Document all visits, case activity and all efforts to meet refugee material needs as outlined by Operational Guidance.
- Maintain relevant reports and statistics related to client activities and program services. Complete program reports within required timeframe securing all required signatures.
- Manage agency resettlement funds on behalf of assigned cases, monitoring balances, and ensuring proper entry of vouchers and supporting documentation.
- Arrange client appointments and provide transportation for all New American services as required or needed, in compliance with applicable child safety laws.
Job Qualifications
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public health or community services preferred, or equivalent experience working with refugees or other vulnerable populations.
Experience
- Minimum one year experience in a culturally diverse environment or community services preferred.
- Spanish Bilingual Required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context. Ability and willingness to work with refugees and other New Americans.
- Ability to speak, read and write fluent English. Fluent in the native language of refugee/New American clients preferred with the ability to translate in both written and verbal forms.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and patience towards persons served. Basic understanding of refugee services.
- Ability to work constructively with staff and clients. Ability and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goals. Basic knowledge of employment recruiting, interviewing, placement techniques and procedures.
- Strong public speaking skills. Ability to relate creatively to representatives of various companies, community organizations and governmental agencies.
- Ability to identify needs, interests, aptitudes, skills and problems, and refer clients to appropriate support services, agencies and programs.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to learn local employer community within specific geographic area.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn to utilize various computer programs including Excel spreadsheet and graphic programs.
Additional Work Requirements
- Automobile travel required.
- Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record and reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting clients. Valid proof of automobile insurance.
