POSITION DESCRIPTION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Center: 7 Rivers LGBTQ+ Connection is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, advocacy, and education to the LGBTQ+ community. We strive to create a safe, inclusive, and vibrant community for all LGBTQ+ individuals.
The mission of The Center: 7 Rivers LGBTQ+ Connection is to create spaces for connection, community, education, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people, our allies, and our neighbors. Our vision is to be a leader in the Seven Rivers Region in bringing pride, equity, and social justice to the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
To be successful in the role, our new Executive Director must be willing to listen to diverse perspectives and work with the community to achieve common goals and resolve complex issues. The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following experiences and qualifications, as well as a passion for promoting LGBTQ+ rights and creating a more inclusive society.
Key duties include:
- Strategic planning: Creating and implementing strategic plans to achieve the Center's mission and goals. This includes working with staff and Board members to develop programs and services that meet the needs of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a commitment to program evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Community outreach: Building relationships with community organizations, community and political leaders, and government officials; collaborating on projects and initiatives; and representing the Center in public forums. Engage with and help energize volunteers, event committees, partnering organizations, etc.
- Advocacy and education: Advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and educating the community about LGBTQ+ issues through events, workshops, speaking engagements, and other programming.
- Staff management: Hiring, managing, motivating, and evaluating staff, providing leadership and direction to ensure that all are working toward the Centers mission and goals.
- Fundraising and development: Developing and maintaining relationships with donors of all kinds; expanding grant applications, new funding opportunities, and partnerships; and managing the Center’s budget.
- Facilities management: Managing the building and resources of the Center.
- Board interactions: Participating actively in regularly scheduled Board meetings, including preparation of materials; ex-officio member of the Board and committees as assigned by the Board.
In summary, the Executive Director is responsible for leading the Center and being thoroughly committed to the Centers mission, must have a proven record of leadership and management, and understand issues of importance to the LGBTQ+ community.
Qualifications include:
- Leadership experience, preferably at a LGBTQ+ non-profit organization-but we will consider other leadership experience
- Personal knowledge about LGBTQ+ identities and their intersections with other marginalized identities as well as experience in serving LGBTQ+ communities required
- Knowledge and/or experience with the La Crosse/Seven Rivers communities and preferred
- Prior experience and cultural competence engaging with and supporting diverse communities, including across genders, race, age, and socio-economic status
- Experience with advocacy and conflict resolution, knowledge of social services
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, including tangible experience with anti-racism activities, training, etc.
- Demonstrated success in developing growth strategies and planning at a not-for-profit organization; and with an entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to innovate and experiment to best meet community needs
- A fundraiser and income generator able to develop and execute a comprehensive revenue plan including diverse income streams such as grants, private donations, in-kind gifts, and income generating initiatives
- Strong team leadership, team building, and human resource management experience; a “people person” with emotional intelligence and able to create an organization-wide culture that is encouraging, open-minded, inclusive, and collaborative
- Strong written and verbal communications acumen, with a preference for someone with bilingual/multilingual skills
- Strong marketing, brand building, and public relations experience, with the skills to tell The Center’s unique and important story
- Prior experience and success working with a Board of Directors
- Bachelors degree in a related field or commensurate experience preferred.
This is a full-time, requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, plus time as needed during some evenings and weekends for community programs, etc. Base salary range is $50,000-$60,000-benefits include a flexible work schedule and paid leave.
