The Gryphon House Story

In 1971, Leah Curry-Rood and Larry Rood, guided by a respect for the work of teachers and parents of young children, started a company called Gryphon House, which began as a distributor of quality children's books. In 1979, Gryphon House expanded the business to include the distribution of teacher resource books. Gryphon House became a publisher in 1981. One of the original books published in that first year, Bubbles, Rainbows, and Worms, is still in print. We currently have a backlist of nearly 200 titles, including beloved authors like Pam Schiller, MaryAnn F. Kohl, and Jackie Silberg. We are proud to be growing our list year after year.

Each year, Gryphon House offers several new titles to help educators, caregivers, and parents give children the confidence to develop the skills necessary to navigate through life successfully. The face of Gryphon House has changed over the years, but we still strive to publish and distribute the highest-quality books for educators, parents, and caregivers.

Local candidates only as relocation is not available for this position.

About the Position

Our Graphic Designer will support Gryphon House's Production Department, including the development of print material layouts, design for book interiors, catalog design and layout, and other design projects as needed. Interacting with Production and Marketing Teams, the Graphic Designer will need to demonstrate creativity that can be interpreted into clean, complete designs.

Job Hours: 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday

Position Responsibilities Include:

• Interpret brand, style and content guidelines into clean, compelling layouts.
• Present new and creative ideas.
• Manage multiple projects concurrently.

Position Requirements Include:

• Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent. .
• Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop & Acrobat) and Mac proficient.
• Minimum three (3) years experience in Graphic Arts or in a related area.
• Skillful knowledge in core graphic design principles (typography, color, layout, composition, etc.).
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Impressive interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
• Self-motivated and exhibits high initiative.
• Flexible and adaptable with ability to problem solve and handle pressure well in a deadline-driven environment with frequent rush assignments while maintaining quality.
