VMware and Cisco Unified Compute Engineer Mid/Sr. Level

Medical Center Orange California

6+ months

Hybrid- But Remote mainly , the resource is expected to go to the data center when the implementation project is needed; onsite to ramp up

Position Summary:

Incumbent is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of the Server Infrastructure. Incumbent is expected to learn and know new technology that impacts systems and quickly resolve any problems involved in integrating new technologies with internal systems. Incumbent supports systems for four data centers running over 1400 Windows and Linux based servers and 8000 client machines. Incumbent is expected to conduct system analysis and development with limited support and direction. Incumbent produces documentation including server specifications, disaster recovery, and application recovery manuals in text and web-based formats

Essential Functions

Applies advanced systems / infrastructure concepts to define, design and implement highly complex systems, services and technology solutions. Proposes and implements highly complex system or device enhancements such as software, hardware and network configuration, updates and installations for projects or services of broad scope. (20%)

Independently manages systems and services and makes recommendations for purchases or upgrades. Performs complex and advanced analysis to acquire, install, modify, and support operating systems, databases, utilities and web-related tools. Selects methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Interacts with senior management. May perform complex network integration tasks and interoperability assessments for interconnected servers or components of clusters for communication. May lead a team of systems / infrastructure professionals. (20%)

Installs, configures, and manages various technologies including, but not limited to Cisco UCS systems; VMware Environment to include vCenter, vSphere hosts, NSX-T; and ancillary applications such as vROps, VRNI, vRealize Automation. Assists co-workers with similar installations and configurations and troubleshooting as needed. (20%)

Specifies, writes, and executes highly complex software and scripts to support systems management, log analysis and other system administration duties for multiple, highly integrated systems. (20%)

Maintains complex security systems. Interprets and adopts system and regulation-based security policies to control access to networked resources. Provides recommendations and requirements on network access controls. (20%)

Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years' experience working in IT server, network, and storage.

Must have expertise with the following technologies.

Boot from SAN: advanced

Fiber Channel (FC) including FC Zoning, WWNs, and storage fabric: advanced

Layer 2 networking: expert

Layer 3 networking: advanced

VMware clustering and networking: expert

Cisco UCS networking: advanced

NSX-T networking: advanced TCP/IP, ARP, DHCP, UDP, TCP, DNS, Routing & Firewalls: advanced

Windows Failover Clustering: entry

Linux: entry

Cisco IOS & NX-OS as well with LACP, PaGP and VPC trunking: entry

Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.

Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.

Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions

Demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and abilities associated with system problem identification and resolution. Experience with design, configuration, operation, repair, and tuning of technology systems.

Advanced experience writing and editing the most complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.

Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing most complex server-based software.

Preferred Qualifications but not required:

Previous work experience supporting Windows OS and Citrix Presentation Server.

Previous work experience with scripting using VMware PowerCLI & Powershell Bash and Python

VMWare Certification

CCNP data center certification is preferred not needed.

Knowledge of medical and academic industry structures
