Salary: $120,000 - $161,000 (depending on experience)
Shift: 10 am - 8 pm, 4-10 hour shifts

Summary of Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager ensures the delivery of quality department /clinical services in accordance with established hospital and regulatory/accreditation agency standards. They also promote a positive and professional image and is a role model, coach, mentor, problem solver, and a resource for staff and peers. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the overall operations of their assigned department. This includes and is not limited to the development of department goals and objectives that are consistent with the hospital mission and strategic plan, the management of personnel, preparing/monitoring of and accountability for the department budgets.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:
- Responsible for management of the FTE component of staffing budgets
- Maintains 24-hour responsibility for nursing care provided on the unit
- Collaborates with physicians and other members of the Health Care Team to ensure the delivery of optimum age-appropriate patient care and provides hospital supervision as required by the Division of Nursing
- Participates in the development of Evidence-based Standards of care for clinical areas of responsibility
- Assures employee compliance with hospital and Human Resources policies and procedures
- Assures that employee competency and education requirements are satisfied as per hospital policy.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization and the Division of Nursing
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Develops and submits departmental goals and objectives that are aligned with the Nursing and hospital strategic plans as required by the Division Administrator.
- Schedules staff based on budgeted staffing plan and department needs.
- Develops and submits operating and capital budgets and reports variances as required to the Division Administrator.
- Submits all other work reports as required/requested by the Division Administrator.
- Integrates patient rights and nursing ethics into work practice
- Adheres to the tenets of the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
- Delegates activities to staff according to the tenets of the NYS Nurse Practice Act
- Adheres to the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics
- Adheres to all WPH standards of care, policies, and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, behavioral standards, completion of annual mandatory education, and completion of annual health assessment
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements
- Current NY State License
- BSN required or matriculated in a BSN program with a plan for graduation by 1/1/2022 if hired prior to 2016 and by 1/1/2020 if hired between 2016 and 1/1/2018 and discussed with the Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services/CNO.
- BLS certification (through the American Heart Association) required
- ACLS certification (through the American Heart Association) is preferred unless required by employees in the department supervised then the certification is required
- Certification in area of specialty, or CNML (Certified Nurse Manager & Leader) preferred but must be obtained within 3 years of hire date.
- Demonstrates a basic knowledge of management skills
- Previous management/leadership experience preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant acute care experience
- Ability to function as a staff RN

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment:
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
- Must be able to move about the department and hospital constantly while attending to the needs of patients, visitors, and staff.
- Requires continuous communication with patients, staff, and visitors of all educational levels.
- Requires frequent use of computers and other office equipment.
- Required to move objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum assist of one (1) or assistive device/equipment per White Plains Hospital Safe Patient Handling Policy.
- Must be able to rapidly assess and respond to the situational needs of patients, staff, and visitors.
- Must be able to adapt to a high-stress environment with frequent interruption
