We are hiring a Governance Project Officer for one of our clients in Trenton, NJ.
Job Description:
- Responsible to perform a variety of organizational, process and policy-oriented tasks associated with Authority Board governance, including streamlining the management of the NJEDA Board and each of its respective committees, and affiliated Boards and Commissions, including the NJ Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology and the Capital City Redevelopment Corporation.
- Master the needs of the governance workflow, board and committee meeting agenda setting, with critical follow-up. Ensuring deadlines are met including developing, tracking, and recording processes and procedures.
- Works collaboratively, as part of a team, on cross-organizational initiatives that relate to board governance practices and management.
- Support efforts to create efficiencies related to the NJEDA's Board Governance process. Implement efforts to make board materials and related documentation available in a user-friendly and streamlined fashion. This will include working in and updating various Excel Spreadsheets and creating and populating an internal web portal for access to board and related materials.
- Develops collateral and user-friendly materials to support the increased and enhanced utilization of Board Governance Software Authority-wide and developing tools and resources to acclimate Board Members to the software utilization.
- Works with the Director of Governance to develop standard operating procedures and templates for the management of Board Governance, including drafting internal-facing board governance protocols, policies and templates.
- Review recommendations provided by the NJEDA Board Governance consultant. Work with the Director of Governance, senior staff and the Office of the Attorney General to draft, revise and implement new and revised board governance policies.
- Support the needs of the Governance department, including supporting the needs of the board and committee meetings, planning and execution.
- Serves as a governance resource; attends all relevant Board and committee meetings, conducts governance-related research, and helps to develop and institutionalize best practices for implementation authority-wide.
- Helps prepare for Board meetings and other Board and Governance-related activities including the organization and dissemination of materials in accordance with the distribution schedule as needed.
- Crafts enhanced outreach to Boards on governance-related matters.
- Organizes and maintains files, databases and correspondence related to Division activity as needed.
- Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.
- Become proficient in Board Governance software.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff.

- Demonstrated proficiency in creative and analytical problem solving, including structuring issues, framing solutions, and executing complex analyses
- Strong ability to synthesize findings and propose actionable solutions

- Ability to work on small project teams tackling complex and challenging work
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff
- Ability to undertake research, disseminate information and summarize in an easily understandable format
- Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constraints with little or no supervision
- Ability to analyze and manipulate report data
- Demonstrate ability to gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of EDA programs and services
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ability to competently prepare PowerPoint presentations, excellent Excel skills, and the ability to learn new software packages.
- Become proficient in Board Governance software.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff.
Education and experience required:
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a relevant field such as policy, planning, communication, or other relevant areas.
- A strong track record of professional success Five years of industry-facing experience in a government agency or related field (or) five years of experience in a fast-paced, project-based professional services environment that emphasizes teamwork, problem solving, and communication.
Work hours:
- 9-5, 35 hours per week
- lunch period- 1 hour unpaid between 12 pm and 2 pm)
