Health Simulation Coordinator (Technical Specialist)

Health Professions Division

MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 5

10 - month position (Danvers Campus)

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., occasional evening and/or weekend hours as necessary

SALARY: Anticipated started prorated salary is $54,400.92 for 44 weeks per year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. Full-time benefited employees at North Shore Community College are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package offered through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This position has the overall responsibility for the coordination, performance, promotion, and support of effective simulation lab(s) experiences for all students, faculty, the College Community, and workforce development initiatives/programs. In conjunction with Academic Technology and Information systems, this position provides technical support for the routine operation and troubleshooting of simulation equipment, computers, audio-visual components, web-based programs, and other necessary components/equipment. In conjunction with college staff, this position will actively promote the benefits and support the use of NSCC's simulation technology in providing an optimal learning experience for NSCC students and meeting the training needs of our regional healthcare employers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate all aspects of the daily operation of the simulation lab(s), including but not limited to: performance of scenarios (prep-to-clean up); scheduling; equipment purchasing and maintenance; budget monitoring; inventory of supplies and equipment; writing and maintaining lab policies and procedures.
  2. Tracking usage of the SIM lab(s) and other simulation equipment to identify effective use, educational impact, and current and future funding needs.
  3. Making recommendations to the Dean regarding budget expenditures for simulation technology, equipment, and supplies, following the College's established policies and procedures to purchase approved items. In partnership with Faculty/Staff, performing simulation scenarios (from prep to clean-up) and working with students to prepare for and practice scenarios.
  4. Promoting, supporting, and training faculty/staff in the benefits and efficacy of simulation scenarios in meeting learning outcomes.
  5. Training faculty/staff, students, and the College Communities on the components of simulation-based learning experiences.
  6. Assisting faculty/staff to write and integrate patient simulation scenarios into the curricula congruent with established competencies, accrediting agency standards, and scope of practice for the respective healthcare professions.
  7. Assisting faculty/staff in developing, implementing, and revising (as necessary) an overall assessment process and evaluation tools for simulation experiences.
  8. Serving as liaison with Academic Technology and Information Systems to establish and maintain the operation of technologies within the simulation labs, including manikins, audio/visual, and computer equipment.
  9. Providing initial support to faculty, staff, and students using the hardware, software, and other materials associated with the simulation lab experience.
  10. Performing intermediate/advanced troubleshooting procedures to resolve technical issues related to simulation equipment and the associated audio/visual and computer components.
  11. Training faculty/staff to perform initial troubleshooting procedures to resolve technical issues related to simulation equipment and the associated audio/visual and computer components.
  12. Works with faculty/staff to research and write grants for funding to support simulation activities.
  13. Works with regional employment boards and other agencies to provide simulation-based experiences to the College Community.
  14. Works with Faculty/Staff to develop and provide professional development opportunities for health professionals (internal and external to the College).
  15. Works with Recruitment and Enrollment Services to promote the advantages of simulation learning to potential applicants/students.
  16. Pursues continuous professional growth and development in simulation experiences for health profession education, academic technology, and technical support as necessary.
  17. Performs other related duties as needed.
