Summary
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for ensuring that culturally appropriate nutritional assessment, counseling, education, and referral is provided to clients across the life cycle with special attention to the obstetrical population and other high-risk clients. Hybrid opportunity with flexibility to work onsite in a clinic setting and work from home via telehealth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides medical nutrition therapy for patients thorough assessment of patients' nutritional needs, develop and implement nutrition programs and evaluate and report the results.
- Assess patients' health needs and diet and develops a nutrition plan.
- Develop meal plans, taking both cost and clients' preferences into account.
- Promote better nutrition through individual and group education about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.
- Keep up with the latest nutritional science research
- Responsible for coordinating services for OB patients and Local WIC Program.
- Develops educational materials for patient use, which include cultural and ethnic preferences of community groups, ensuring translation of materials into appropriate languages.
- Provides in-services to and acts as a resource for health center staff. Participates in case conferences, staff meetings.
- Plan and implement employee wellness programs
- Develops linkage with health care providers and community agencies for outreach and referrals (ie: food pantries, food stamps, WIC, and family home visiting program)
- Works collaboratively with the clinical care teams, providers, and Diabetic Educators.
- Participate as a provider for the health center's Growth and Nutrition Program, which serves children under the age of 7 experiencing poor growth.
- Participates in outreach activities
- Participate and implement quality improvement projects.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- MA state Registered and/or licensed dietitians required.
- BS in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related subject / MS preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of community nutrition experience preferred.
- Demonstrates leadership and decision-making capabilities.
- Bilingual preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors, nurses and other department staff. Occasional requests to change work areas to cover another priority area to meet patient needs. Occasional stress and pressure caused by multiple simultaneous demands. May be exposed to various body fluids and/or infectious diseases. Universal precautions and techniques are included in orientation and the availability of protective wear is supported and encouraged when the employee is at risk for exposure.
