About the role:

The Nurse Manager of Dialysis assumes 24-hour accountability and responsibility for excellence in the clinical and operational practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care on the ANCC Magnet® designated unit/practice area of Dialysis within ChristianaCare.

Daily contact with patients, family members, visitors, employees, medical staff, volunteers, and students. Contact at various times with community agencies, companies, and other hospitals as well as the general public.

The Nurse Manager supervises all levels of personnel on unit position control and this position reports directly to the Vice President, Patient Care Services

EDUCATION:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities related to leadership, teaching, budget, group dynamics, problem-solving, performance improvement, research, and staff development

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients, including knowledge of growth and development, pain management, and the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs Knowledge of the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses Knowledge of the ANCC Magnet Model components of Transformational Leadership (TL), Structural Empowerment (EP), Exemplary Professional Practice (EPP), New Knowledge, Innovations & Improvements (NK), and Empirical Outcomes (EO). Knowledge of Relationship Based Care Model for Patient Care Delivery Knowledge of ChristianaCare, departmental and unit specific policies, procedures, protocols, and standards knowledge of the appropriate chain of command

Knowledge of inpatient and outpatient dialysis operations Strong organizational skills

Proven leadership capabilities and strong interpersonal skills: personable, motivational, articulate, flexible, creative, responsible, decisive Skill in oral and written communication at all times Ability to make decisions and act independently

Ability to set expectations and give direction

Ability to assist nursing staff in planning care and nursing interventions that meet the needs of patients and families

Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy

Ability to use the computer for patient information, input, and retrieval, as well as various programs to enhance management of the unit

Ability to respond to emergency situations according to policy, standard or protocol

Ability to administer medications in a safe manner Ability to assess knowledge and developmental needs of staff as well as self

Ability to follow standard precautions

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate multidisciplinary efforts
