The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina (UNC) is seeking a Division Chief to lead our Division of Acute Care and Trauma Surgery. The Division of Acute Care and Trauma Surgery is among 10 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 9 faculty members, who provide a broad array of clinical services with the highest quality care in trauma, critical care, emergency general surgery, and elective general surgery. UNC is certified as a Level I trauma center and supports a busy ECMO program. The Division is home to a strong military-civilian partnership given the proximity to Fort Bragg and Camp LeJeune. Additionally, there is a long tradition of collaboration with the Gillings School of Public Health, Sheps Center for Health Services Research, and UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Disease. This is an Open Rank, Open Track, 0.5 FTE to 1.0 FTE Academic appointment that will be offered commensurate with the candidate’s experience.

The incoming Chief will be responsible for partnering with the Chair of the Department of Surgery to promote clinical growth and academic success in a collaborative environment. The Department of Surgery offers potential candidates a practice environment with an emphasis on quality patient care, research, teaching, individual career development, and partnership among a wide range of world class medical professionals. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Only candidates who are board certified by the American Board of Surgery and have completed additional training in trauma, acute care, critical care, or other relevant field should apply. Candidates must have leadership experience and be currently active in at least one of these clinical areas. Salary and level of appointment will be based upon experience and qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The ideal applicant will have a strong track record of programmatic development, academic productivity, mentorship, and demonstrate excellent leadership skills. Also, applicants with an academic interest in clinical outcomes, quality and safety, health services, education, ethics, informatics, or basic science/translational research are preferred.
