As an Associate Director of Curriculum Development, you will contribute to the strategic vision and implementation of the public education team's programs and initiatives. Our kidney disease education programs and resources seek to empower and support those affected by kidney disease by addressing the learning needs and interests of our public, patient, and caregiver audiences. Your success in this role will stem from your ability to manage multiple competing priorities, recognizing the importance of kidney disease in community health, the disproportionate impact on communities of color, and the social determinants of health as it relates to chronic kidney disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Lead the development of a standardized education curricula across the spectrum of kidney disease from prevention for those at risk to living post -transplant, incorporating AKF's core messaging, applying evidence-based pedagogy and appropriate theories of behavior change with the goal of increasing knowledge and understanding of kidney disease and improving quality of life among people with CKD and caregivers
- Apply principles of health literacy, numeracy, and plain language to translate clinical/technical jargon into consumable layperson content. Support cultural adaptation and translation of content considering the language, culture, and context of our audiences.
- Contribute to the expansion of our education content offerings relevant to preventing kidney disease (with a particular focus among those with diabetes and hypertension), condition management to delay progression of kidney disease, dialysis, transplant, mental health and improving overall quality of life with kidney disease.
- Working with Director of Public Education and Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, incorporate innovative and data-informed learner-centric education strategy methods for education.
- Manage content and implementation processes, including initial formative research, identification of and engagement with subject matter experts for input on curriculum development, coordinating with vendors to design graphics and platforms, and Spanish translation.
- Work across AKF departments to incorporate existing resources where relevant, create the curriculum from start to finish, continuously evaluate and enhance the program.
- Continuously conduct research on relevant topics to determine content requiring updating and new content that should be created.
- Conduct ongoing needs assessments and industry analysis of our public, patient, and caregiver audiences to inform Education's team approach for reaching and educating our audience.
- Continuously collect data of our audience (including AKF Ambassadors and constituents) through formative research, user testing, competitive analysis, periodic focus groups, and surveys.
- Supervise Public Education Specialist in supporting role performing formative research and contributing to new health education content such as toolkits, planners, fact sheets, brochures, pamphlets, infographics, posters.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation including needs assessments, environmental scans, and outcome evaluation, to assess the effectiveness of programs.
- Support the planning and implementation of AKF's annual Kidney Action Week, a free, week-long virtual conference dedicated to educating the community on all matters related to kidney health.
- Collaborate across departments, including Communications, Fundraising, Government Relations, and Operations, to assure educational materials developed meet the needs of the entire organization and ensures the public education team maintains the same positive collaboration.
- Performs additional related duties, as assigned.
Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Bachelor's degree in education, health education, science education or-related field required. Graduate degree in education, curriculum development, public health, dietetics, or nursing preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in non-profit sector, as a classroom teacher or other professional environment. At least 1-2 years supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience creating lesson plans and learning reinforcement activities with accompanying materials as primary or secondary classroom teacher required.
- Certifications in Education, CPH, CHES or MCHES a plus.
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
- Knowledge of health literacy principles, plain language standards, best practices of health communication, both verbal and written, and behavior change theory required.
- Experience with and understanding of needs of those with chronic disease or renal health preferred.
- Must be well-organized and detail oriented with skill in research, technical writing, and budget management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience communicating with various levels of professionals through both verbal and written correspondence.
- Strong project management skills required.
- Ability to lift materials and boxes up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to work some weekends or evenings as required.
AKF offers a hybrid work schedule with employees working in the office 1-4 days per month and telework the rest of the time.
