Job Description and Duties

The Psychologist (Health Facility-Clinical) (Psychologist) serves as a subject matter expert (SME) regarding evaluations for limited conservatorship cases by providing clinical review of submitted materials.  The Psychologist provides clinical consultation and review of conservatorship nomination packets; reviews Special Incident Reports and Individual Program Plans; drafts status reports and other clinical reports; and provides technical assistance and consultation to regional center (RC) staff.  The Psychologist collaborates with DDS Conservatorship Liaisons, Office of Legal Affairs (OLA), and the Office of the Director (Director), while working alongside members of the team including the Community Liaison and Community Program Specialist. The Psychologist provides communication and updates to the Director, Community Services Division (CSD), Office of Statewide Clinical Services (OSCS), and RC staff on conservatorship nominations, conservatees and relevant information.

This position is eligible to participate in DDS’ hybrid telework schedule. Participation in telework is subject to DDS’ guidelines.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Knowledge of: Principles, techniques, and trends in psychology with particular reference to social aspects of mental illness and intellectual/developmental disabilities; protocols and tools for clinical evaluation and program evaluation; procedures involved in establishing effective teams/positive group dynamics and community relationships; assessing program needs and resources; institutional and social processes; functions of psychologists in various mental health services; current trends in the field of mental health and intellectual/developmental disabilities; approaches to the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental illness and intellectual/developmental disabilities; preparation and planning for coordinated programs with local and State agencies, private agencies, and health care providers.

Ability to: Provide professional consultation. Teach and participate in professional training. Recognize situations requiring the creative application of technical skills; develop and evaluate creative approaches to the development and direction of a psychology program. Plan, organize, and conduct research, data analysis and program evaluation. Conduct difficult assessment and psychological treatment procedures. Analyze situations accurately and take effective action and communicate effectively. Problem solve, work collaboratively with Department staff, clinicians, and other professionals, communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Work collaboratively with other divisions within the Department and external stakeholders.
