Visiting Research Scientist Holonyak Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory The Grainger College of Engineering University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign The Holonyak Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Visiting Research Scientist position in Dr. Rashid Bashir's laboratory. The Visiting Research Scientist conducts scientific research and develops advanced sensors and devices for characterization and measurements of cellular and molecular biological entities in micro and nanoscale devices. This position will also provide leadership in the management of publications and assist with grant proposal development.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Conduct high-level research and lead research development activities in the area of next generation of 2D Heterostructure Nanopore for DNA Characterization and Sequencing
- Perform measurements of cellular and molecular biological entities in micro and nanoscale devices
- Generate journal and conference publications and disseminate the results
- Assist principal investigator in the preparation of written grant proposals for research activities
- Assume additional appropriate related research duties to further the mission of the laboratory Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering or a related field.
- Five years' experience in fabricating and characterization of Nanopore and nanoelectronics devices Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent organizational skills APPOINTMENT INFORMATION This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is August 16, 2024. This position may become permanent at a later date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. The minimum salary is $60,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employees hired into this position will be expected to work onsite on a full-time basis.
