OVERVIEW:

The Office of Equity and Community Engagement (ECE) at our institution plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment. The office is actively involved in supporting student life and wellness by providing curricular, co-curricular,  and faculty support to promote diverse perspectives in classrooms. It creates a sense of community through affinity and alliance spaces, organizes various events, and manages data related to equity initiatives. The office also focuses on faculty and staff professional development, alumni outreach, and admissions support. Social responsibility and impact are emphasized through service and service learning programs, and ongoing heritage acknowledgment is prioritized. The office represents the institution and liaises with community organizations, and provides resources for employees and students, offers hiring support, collaborates with the Board Trustee Committee, and reviews policies and practices with non-academic departments in addition to engaging in universal strategic planning. 

The ECE Associate assists in the creation and support of all ECE programs..  The full-time Associate collaborates closely with the ECE team and other key constituents to develop and implement initiatives that promote cultural competency and social justice within the Kent Denver School community.  Working directly with students, student and family groups, faculty, and staff, the ECE Associate drives projects in both the Upper and Middle Schools and represents the ECE Director and the Team’s institutional vision, including but not limited to the Kent Denver Strategic Plan and future iterations.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Social Responsibility and Impact program oversight

Approx 30%

Upper School Service Coordination 

• Liaise with volunteer platform service provider
• Coordinate team of four Upper School service advisors
• Help manage student approval board
• Find and implement ways to engage and update the Kent Denver community about social responsibility and impact opportunities and achievements

Middle School Service Learning Coordination

• Plan impactful grade-level service-learning themes and/or activities with the support of MS faculty
• Coordinate at least two “Community Days” one per semester
• Build KDS’s community engagement network of organizations (local and national)
• Develop ongoing service learning opportunities on campus (e.g. Tiny Farm)

Communication, Calendar and Event  Management

Approx 20%

• Collaborate with Office of Communications to curate stories and social media focused on ECE work and universal community engagement
• Assist in planning and managing, and attend, heritage appreciation events and/or community events (e.g. Alumni of color events, local diversity events) to document and report, in collaboration with Office of Communications
• Work with Director of ECE and ACIS schools to coordinate cross-collaborative events
• Plan and update school calendar with ECE-related events including: special assemblies, community-wide events, on-campus professional development, student programming, and KDPA-sponsored heritage/cultural and affinity/alliance events
• Update and maintain list of external professional development events for all employees

Data Gathering and Management

Approx 5%

• Assist the Office of ECE to administer student and adult surveys related to inclusivity and belonging yearly 
• Assist the Office of ECE to collect and analyze data to assess the efficacy of ECE initiatives and identify areas of improvement 

Student-Facing Support and Learning

Approx 25%

• Work with Director of ECE to bring diverse voices, experiences, and resources to the school community for the purpose of student education and informing best practices
• Provide support in addressing bias incidents
• Work with Director of ECE and Division-level Coordinators to curate and manage co-curricular student-facing DEIB learning opportunities including conference-going, assembly preparation, project participation, and liaising with relevant student groups
• Possess an openness to leading student Advisory or teaching a class or an elective

Employee-Facing Support and Learning

Approx 10%

• Work with Director of ECE and ECE Professional Development Facilitator to support DEIB-related professional learning needs of faculty and staff, including logistical support
• Support on-campus Professional Development events and/or sessions throughout academic year

ECE Team Support

Approx 10%

• Attend ECE Team meetings and support ECE Team member activities
• Serve as a Kent Denver School liaison for the annual NAIS People of Color Conference
• Maintain records of ECE-initiated events and programming

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree or certificates of completion in relevant areas preferred

Experience

• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues within an educational setting
• Demonstrated experience with social service and program creation and management
• Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching and communication practices
• Honed project conception and management experience

Skills

• Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and serve as a discerning listener and strong advocate
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Analytical skills to collect, interpret, and utilize data effectively
