Position Description
The Energy Division is seeking a
Senior Communications Manager to support the International Development Group on an anticipated USAID-funded project in Eastern Europe. The Senior Communications Manager will serve as a key liaison to the client to define communications priorities, and, along with the Communications Director, will help create and implement effective communication and reporting of project activities to relevant stakeholders.
This position will report to a Communications Director and have a matrixed line of accountability to the Project Director, Energy Division. This position could be based in Washington, DC, or the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (RTI headquarters). Telecommuting will be considered on a case-by-case basis, though candidates based in the U.S. East Coast time zone are preferred. The position will be expected to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US. This p osition is contingent upon award and funding. Responsibilities - In close coordination with the project Communications Director and project leadership, develop and implement a communications strategy focusing on key stakeholders including USAID, other U.S. Government entities, host Government entities, the private sector, and other key audiences.
- Develop relevant communication materials, tools, and approaches in line with the project objectives, including identifying appropriate ways to publicize and disseminate content.
- Work closely with technical team members to gather, synthesize, and disseminate project-related information, translating information and data into suitable language for the U.S. Government, the general public, and other audiences, as appropriate.
- Coordinate with USAID's communications team, and RTI headquarter communications staff, for project events and communications in a timely manner. This may include attending regular in-person or virtual meetings with USAID counterparts.
- Ensure activity events and communications are aligned with USAID Mission and Washington priorities and are reviewed and approved by USAID staff as required.
- Ensure compliance with USAID branding and marking guidelines and approved messages.
- Develop or review project communications materials, including project factsheets, press releases, scene-setters, talking points, brochures, success stories, and social media posts.
- Supervise the activities of service providers responsible for the production of communication media and tools, and event management.
- Train project staff, partners, and other stakeholders on integrating communications into day-to-day responsibilities.
Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of experience, Master's degree and 10 years of experience, PhD and 6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten (10) years' substantive experience developing, producing, and disseminating communication activities and materials, such as success stories, newsletters, and social media campaigns.
- Five (5) years' experience working with USAID and/or USAID projects.
Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven project and time management skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and establish strong working relationships with key colleagues within RTI and U.S. Government entities.
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills (native speaker or professional-level fluency).
- Self-starter, able to think creatively and work independently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Candidates will be required to provide writing sample as a part of the selection process.
