Organizer
(part-time)
Based in Philadelphia, PA
The Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO seeks a part-time Organizer to support new organizing and strategic campaigns in Philadelphia. The organizer will work closely with the emerging Coalition of Workers at Penn to support the collaboration and growth of worker organizing at the University of Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities Include:
- Field Organizing - work with the Organizing Director to find opportunities to bring new workers into the Coalition and the coordinated campaign on campus. This organizing might involve talking to workers at campus events, sharing petitions, or helping to plan actions.
- Strategic Research and Data Support – use data tools to support the Coalition in mapping workers on campus and identifying potential new bargaining units.
- Legislative and Community Partnerships – work with allies in the city and state legislature and community organizations on partnerships to grow worker strength in Philadelphia and beyond.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Interest in the labor movement
- Experience with higher education campuses - either as a student or employee
- Comfort with data entry, spreadsheets, and self-directed research.
- Unafraid to initiate conversations with workers and union leaders on the phone or in person.
This is a grant-funded, part time (20 hours/week) position with possibility to become a full time position. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local 623.
