JOB SUMMARY
The Director Development, Special Events is responsible for successfully achieving revenue goals for Boys & Girls Clubs of America focusing on signature events in the Northeast Region such as Youth of the Year, Golf, Summit for America’s Youth, National Conference, Alumni Hall of Fame.
This position will lead the overall development of event fundraising strategy and where appropriate engage, manage and motivate high-level volunteers and donors, to facilitate their successful participation in achieving revenue goals.
Revenue Generation
- Develop, implement, and assure the success of fundraising goals for events.
- Secure large sponsorships (corporate and individual donors) and multi-year/multi-region corporate sponsorships.
- Renew and upgrade existing corporate sponsors and individual donors.
- Research, identify and acquire new companies and donor relationships through cultivation. stewardship and deepened engagement with BGCA through its signature events (Youth of the Year, Golf, Summit for America’s Youth, National Conference and/or Alumni Hall of Fame).
Committee Development & Engagement
- Strong focus on recruiting new volunteers to event committees that are diverse and representative of the region.
- Develop profiles on top businesses within the region with a detailed plan to secure their involvement.
- Identify and cultivate a deep volunteer pipeline to ensure event leadership is in place a minimum of two years in advance.
- Orient, manage and steward leadership committees comprised of high-level community volunteers and corporate leaders to ensure event fundraising success.
- Manage all volunteer committee meetings, individual committee member/chair strategy meetings, follow-ups and overall needs of the leadership committee.
- Prepare agendas and meeting minutes (producing minutes/notes with 72 post meeting/call)
Marketing & Communications
- Prepare, proof and disseminate correspondence including but not limited to emails, solicitation letters, custom proposals etc.
- Create and present event presentation decks, event Trustee materials and ad hoc presentations.
- Sponsorship Activation: Ensure that all sponsor benefits are executed in accordance with sponsor levels (i.e. logo, program ads, custom activations etc.)
Collaboration
- Event Planning: Serve as the main point of contact for Events Team on logistics and planning aspects for all Regional & National Events.
- Individual Giving/Major Gifts: Assist with identifying, cultivating and stewarding individual donor prospects to support the Region’s Individual Giving targets; as well as steward event donors to increase the event gift to a major gift in collaboration with the Individual Giving Team and Regional Development Officers.
- Corporate & Cause Partnerships: Work with corporate and cause partnerships team to ensure accurate corporate partner rights and benefits are executed within each event, leverage events for corporate lead generation and to strengthen pipelines through engagement and stewardship.
Reporting & Data Management
- Create and maintain event pipelines, ensuring healthy and expansive pipelines and execution of prospective donors/sponsors.
- Ensure accurate information are on event trackers, salesforce and in compliance with BGCA salesforce best practices.
- Create and maintain gap-to-goal strategy reports, internal weekly reports and other reporting as needed.
Misc .
- Work as a productive member of the Resource Development team and with other departments of the National BGCA staff.

- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy and elsewhere.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or education/experience equivalency.
- Minimum of f5+years of demonstrated successful experience planning and leading significant fundraising events and recruiting and cultivating high level volunteers in a large metropolitan area.
- Successful track record should include working with high level volunteer Board and committee members to meet fundraising objectives and with planning, managing and initiating solicitations.
- High-yield committee fundraising experience is essential.
- National-level special events experience is preferred.
SKILLS
- Demonstrated ability to work with and motivate committee members and volunteers in resource development efforts; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; knowledge of successful special event fundraising practices; intermediate Microsoft Word, database (Luminate and Access), research and spreadsheet skills; demonstrated understanding and utilization of fundraising techniques to identify, solicit and steward gifts from various donor sources (i.e., individuals, corporations, foundations).
ENVIRONMENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS
- The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and must be able to travel 60% as needed.
- Position requires the ability to work for prolonged periods of time at high levels of activity, managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines; requires the ability to sit for more than four hours per day, reading, listening, stooping, bending, and manual dexterity skills.
