About the Project:
Join an exciting cross-disciplinary team recently awarded a grant in the Bioinspired Design Innovations track within the Convergence Accelerator initiative as part of the National Science Foundation's Directorate for Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP). Buildings account for 40% of carbon emissions, contributing to one of our most burdensome societal challenges - architecture in the context of climate crisis. The team will explore the creative integration of bioinspired design for novel sustainable approaches to the design and engineering of solar panels on buildings. Through a unique weekly innovation curriculum organized and delivered by the NSF Convergence Accelerator, the team will engage a fast-paced year-long schedule covering Team Science, Human-Centered Design, and Communications.
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the project's principal investigator, the Project Associate (PA) will manage the day-to-day operational aspects of the project. The PA will plan, schedule and monitor activities of each PI to fulfill the project objectives and requirements. They will assign resources, set project deadlines in consultation with the team, track timelines and budgets, liaise with the industry partner, E Ink, and coordinate the progress of subcontractors towards meeting agreed-upon deliverables. They will coordinate communications on the project, including building the team through new relationships with key stakeholders. Identify, outreach, and add advisors and partners to the team. Manage communications with end users and stakeholders on social media. Monitor posts on an ongoing basis for content and relevance. Plan events as opportunities arise with organizations outside of Cornell. The PA will develop agendas for and organize and schedule meetings, conference calls, and teleconferences. Additionally, the PA will assist in creating and executing additional projects as needed including surveys and events targeting end users.
Success in this role requires proactive relationship building with varied stakeholders; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to work with and manage a diverse cross-disciplinary team with multiple goals; and impeccable organization with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities. A strong candidate will have the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at any given time, to work independently, but also within a large team. This position requires a strategic and organized thinker who takes creative initiative in working toward consensus with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and community members.
This is a full-time, benefit eligible appointment through December 31, 2024 , with the possibility of extension pending satisfactory job performance and availability of funding.

The new Department of Design Tech is a multicollege initiative pioneering innovation, research, and teaching on topics at the intersection of design and emerging technology that most greatly impact industry and practice in a changing world.
