Position Summary


The Patient Care Coordinator (or Medical Assistant) provides superior support and assistance to patients as they prepare for various Radiology exams, including Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures. The PCC meets with patients to verify history and discuss protocols for their examinations and procedures. The PCC supports the various staff and Radiologists by performing preparations prior to and following examinations and procedures. Performs IV preparation and venipuncture and, for sites performing IR procedures, is proficient in sterile technique and instrument sterilization, as required.


Position Duties and Responsibilities


1.Greets and escorts patient to exam room and established professional rapport; obtains vital signs as necessary; verifies that patient has understood and followed exam preparations for procedure, administers additional preparations if indicated; instructs patient on attire required for exam; discusses protocol with patient; obtains and documents or verifies patient history for examination.


2.Obtains and coordinates appropriate patient documentation for pending examinations and procedures. Prepares supporting paperwork and performs data entry as needed. Reviews schedules and laboratory requisitions to determine clinical appropriateness. Confirms required lab results have been obtained. Accurately records and updates information on medical record. For MRI only: Performs safety screenings on all patients. For CT only: Performs i-STAT Creatine level testing.


3.Cleans and sets up exam room for procedures. Monitors and stocks supplies. Distributes laundry to appropriate areas. For IR only: Ensures use of sterile technique. Performs autoclave functions adhering to all Jefferson Radiology standards, policies and procedures. Disposes of hazardous waste, adhering to OSHA regulations.


4.Prepares relevant priors, CD's and film copies for presentation to radiologists. Assists technologist or radiologist during exams and procedures, as required. For IR only: Assists clinical staff as required during procedures. Provides pre and post procedure care for vein patients. Monitors patients for any adverse reactions. Provides follow-up care by means of phone calls to the patients described. Prepares charts and organizes work for the following day.


5.Demonstrates proficient IV skills and performs venipuncture as required for various Radiology exams and IR procedures. Assists technical and clerical/administrative staff as needed.


6.Performs other related duties as assigned.


7.Participates as a member of the Jefferson Radiology Team. Consistently demonstrates and promotes Jefferson Radiology Values.


8.Ensures a professional attitude and appearance at all times. Consistently demonstrates flexibility and good judgment. Consults with co-workers and supervisor as necessary.


9.Adheres to all Jefferson Radiology policies and procedures, including Compliance, HIPAA, OSHA, licensing and accreditation guidelines. Reviews policy and procedure manuals on an annual basis.


DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


One of the following certifications is required: Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist, EMT, or LPN.

CPR/BLS certification required.

2+ years experience preferred.


Venipuncture and IV skills strongly preferred but will train.


Must demonstrate strong adherence to safety standards.


Must convey a pleasant, professional manner and demonstrate excellent patient care and customer service skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Computer experience required.


Physical Requirements of the job: Able to lift 10 lbs., and up to 30 lbs. with assistance, exposure to blood and body fluids.
