Job Description

Educational Programs Inspiring the Community (EPIC) serves thousands of students annually in and around Washoe County through hundreds of non-credit programs fostering personal enrichment and professional development. The department is self-supported through student tuition and fees. EPIC offers fun and creative courses and events as well as workforce preparation training year-round.

The EPIC program director oversees the successful planning and execution of non-credit career certificate training programs, community education courses, custom training, and the safety center. As a self-supporting department, the program director assesses economic trends, analyzes financial projections to ensure sustainability and attainment of revenue goals, and mediates potential shortfalls. The program director leads, manages, and supervises full-time and part-time staff with various roles and responsibilities that assist with the department's operations.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in business, educational administration or a related field required.

2. A combination of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in program management, education and training, marketing, sales, or business management required.

3. Supervisory experience of multiple staff members required.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's degree in business, educational administration or a related field preferred.

2. Experience in educational administration preferred.

3. Grants management experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities:

Department Management:

1. Prepare and conduct formal and informal needs assessment and analysis of the department, training programs, courses and events.
2. Develop new and maintain existing programs and course for both career certificate and community education programs to guarantee an annual 10% profit margin, minimum. Assist with recruitment of instructors and trainers.
3. Prepare and implement annual program budgets of over 2.2 million dollars for all EPIC accounts. Set financial goals using established models for non-credit programs. Maintain an 18-month reserve to cover all essential operational needs, including salaries, fringe benefits, and program supplies.
4. Monitor all budgets on a monthly basis and meet financial goals. Review and approve EPIC financial and payroll transactions. Ensure expenses are necessary and meet the needs of the department, training programs or courses.
5. Supervise and evaluate direct reports and ensure office coverage during all normal business hours. Promote a positive work culture to enhance productivity and foster a sense of community with the team.
6. Facilitate departmental training policies and procedures, team building and professional development. Facilitate monthly team meetings to ensure all staff are up to date on department and institutional news, information and changes.
7. Assist with student registrations, transfers or cancelations by phone, email or in-person.
8. Manage and resolve non-routine instructor and student issues and concerns.
9. Create, submit and present an annual final narrative and financial report to Dean of Business and Social Sciences. Narrative includes new fiscal year goals or initiatives with projected revenue impacts.
10. Submit non-credit reports to institutional research or as requested by internal or external stakeholders.
11. Serve as a back up to any position in the department during times of absences or scheduling conflicts.
12. Assist TMCC departments with developing non-credit courses including recommending price points and tuition rates.
13. Serve as the point of contact and administrator for all of EPIC's grant-funded projects.
14. Develop and implement department strategic plans that align with institutional plans and goals.
15. Review and approve all independent contractor and vendor agreements.

Career Certificates and Custom Training:

1. Create, oversee, maintain and regularly evaluate short term, career certificate programs, researching job growth outlook for Northern Nevada and developing programs that are in line with high growth careers. Ensure success of these programs through partnerships with appropriate community contacts.
2. Stay abreast of industry, economic and wage trends and projections. Identify training gaps and determine the feasibility of implementing training programs.
3. Ensure the curriculum of locally or nationally certified training program aligns with the certification board's competencies and standards. Update the curriculum as needed. Develop and maintain partnerships with the certifying board.
4. Conduct pricing analysis of training programs to ensure competitiveness and profit margin.
5. Manage and maintain the department's courses on the state's management information system for eligible training providers. Add and renew courses as necessary.
6. Direct the activities of customized workforce and safety training to include client engagement, proposal/contract development, delivery of training and evaluation.
7. Develop and execute effective relationships with all divisions in the College to support each division's customized training needs.
8. Create and oversee the vision and mission of customized training, including revenue goals.

Marketing:
1. Work with the marketing manager to develop a strategic marketing and promotion plan for all courses and events. Assist with the delegation of tasks to ensure full implantation of plans. Ensure the plan includes promotional timelines for printed and social media campaigns.
2. Promote all program services, activities and courses when representing the department at internal or external meetings, workshops or events. Serve as the "face" of the department outside of the institution.
3. Participate in relevant community, business and College groups, meetings and activities to promote programs, create pathways, stay involved with the community, support student-hiring initiatives and develop relationships.
4. Develop presentations and present to internal and external stakeholders to increase awareness of department activities and services.
5. Communicate and maintain trusted relationships with businesses to increase awareness of customized training opportunities through the College.

Salary and Benefits Information:

Salary: $79,214 - $99,018 initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience.
