RWJBH is seeking an Infection Preventionist at the New Brunswick campus. This is a full-time, day position (40hours/week).

The Infection Preventionist IP will support the efficient function of the Infection Prevention and Control Program,

IP supports the philosophy, objectives and mission and vision of RWJUH and the Department of Infection Prevention,

IP practices in accordance with the Department of Health regulations, Joint Commission, CDC, NHSN and other regulatory agencies,

IP collects, analyzes and presents data relevant to infection control/infectious disease,

IP provides education based upon identified needs and age of associates and in accordance with approved Infection control policies and procedures,

IP develops policies and procedures regarding infection control,

IP participates at the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and other committees as assigned,

IP accepts on call schedule as determined by the Director,

IP investigates clusters, outbreaks and assists in complying with regulatory agencies,

IP Participates in performance improvement evaluation activities

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Nursing OR other Health Science-related field

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in an acute care facility,

Prior infection prevention experience preferred,

Certification in Infection Control CIC is required after two years of experience,

Job Requirements:

Communication:

Appropriately apprises the Director, Infection Prevention of developments affecting the functions and elements of the Infection Prevention Program,

Regulatory Compliance:

Contributes toward assuring Infection Prevention compliance with Joint Commission Standards by participating in tracer rounds and assisting with review of compliance with Standards on an annual basis,

Enters data as required in the CDC/Nations Health Safety Network NHSN database

Enters reportable diseases into the NJDOH CDRSS database

Surveillance:

Review daily Epic reports for culture results that may represent nosocomial infection and/or infection trends,

Conducts daily surveillance rounds and reviews patient charts for evidence of nosocomial infection,

Investigates clusters of infections, epidemics, or unusual infections as these events arise,

Discusses increased prevalence of nosocomial infections with the Director, Infection Prevention and/or the Hospital Epidemiologist,

Participate in epidemiologic studies as needed,

Assist the Bed Managers in identifying appropriate patient placement if requested,

Record appropriate information in patient record as needed,

Participate in unit-based infection prevention activities as indicated,

Demonstrates responsibility for self-directed activity,

Reports reportable diseases to the appropriate public health departments within required time limits

Participate in hospital committees as needed,

Prepares infection prevention department reports,

Completes HAI infection worksheets in Epic as per the Centers for Disease Control CDC National Health Safety Network NHSN as cases are confirmed,

Presents and discusses the report at the monthly Infection Prevention Committee Meeting,

Maintain appropriate records and files,

Staff Education:

Provides educational programs for departments as requested and approved by the Director, Infection Prevention,

Develops and conducts targeted educational sessions as needed,

Conducts orientation sessions for new staff as needed,

Assists with onboarding new IP staff to the department
