Junior Design Engineer

General Overview & Reporting:

The Junior Design Engineer is responsible for creating and managing Engineering documentation, learning the intricacies of the product offerings. The role will be turning ideas from functional prototypes and products into documents that support the shop, our Sales team, and our customers. Responsibilities also include supporting the Design Engineers with drawings and models using SolidWorks. In addition, the Design Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining supporting documentation such as specifications, instructions, and other engineering documents. The Design Engineer will support fabrication and assembly departments with manufacturing-related issues and improvements as they arise. This position is exempt and reports to the Director of OPEX and Engineering.

Primary Job Functions:

Documentation:

• Create and Manage Specification Sheets to support Sales and Engineering.
• Support the management of IES files
• Create and Manage Product Storyboards for the shop to understand product manufacturing.
• Create and manage Field Product Instructions and Videos to support customers with field installations.
• And other supporting documents as needed.

Design:

• Support the Design Engineers with Designs and models to supply a finished product.
• Create multiple iterations of design prototypes using SolidWorks.
• Support with usability tests and modify the product based on the test results.
• Document the design process and present the progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.

Manufacturing:

• Develop drawings and documentation that are usable by manufacturing and assembly.
• Support manufacturing and assembly with any technical issues that arise on the line to keep work flowing.

Lean Journey

• Assist with 5S Implementation and provide support to Operational Excellence.
• Support with the creation of procedures and process maps.

Additional Duties:

• Other duties, as assigned by the Director of OPEX and Engineering.

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma
• Experience with documentation creation is a plus
• 1yr Exp design background

Competencies :

• Must be proficient with SolidWorks and MS Publisher. REQUIRED
• Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Good communication and Interpersonal skills.
• Proficient Design Skills.
• Proficient Documentation Skills.
• Product-focused creative thinker.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Proficient in MS Office.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment (exposure to heat, cold, dust, etc.).
• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
• Visual acuity is required to read instructions, operate hand tools, written documents, inspect materials, products, etc.
• Must be able to work standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and in squatting position.
