I. Job Summary
Assists supervising lawyer (who is an employment attorney) and internal clients on various moderate to highly complex legal activities. Manages, reviews and responds to subpoenas, drafts and maintains litigation hold notices, serves as primary contact with outside counsel on discovery matters, assists in drafting employment-related agreements. Assists lawyer in responding to government agency claims and attorney demand letters.



II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews and revises employment-related agreements, discovery responses and litigation correspondence, and tracks litigation and response deadlines.
  • Manages intake of requests for legal assistance, including assignment of projects to outside counsel or non-legal in-house staff. Coordinates projects with assigned outside counsel.
  • Conducts basic legal research and analyzes law sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles and/or codes.
  • Organizes and maintains all files and filing, including maintaining index of files, and collects documents from internal sources
  • May conduct fact-gathering and interviews of personnel in other departments and outside the organization while performing research or other legal responsibilities.
  • Assists counsel with complex case research, subject and topic research and briefings of court or administrative cases.
  • Assists in implementation of legal-related processes, policies, and technologies.
  • Creates new matters and manages existing matters using company's legal matter management software for outside counsel. Provides preliminary review of invoices from outside counsel.
  • Works with appropriate departments/functions within the Company to ensure implementation of policies or actions when necessary.
  • Responds to questions, subpoenas, requests for records, legal documentation/contracts and/or other requests from outside counsel and Company management. Disseminates requests and related information as required and/or directed.
  • Reviews materials for discoveries, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, hearings and various other court matters.
  • Prepares and drafts correspondence, and some administrative tasks including settlement checks, calendars, and expense reports.
  • May review and analyze recommendations made by outside counsel. Obtains and communicates appropriate authorization when necessary for settlements.

IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.



A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Law Clerk or Paralegal Diploma (accredited), or in lieu of diploma, High School Diploma or GED (accredited), and two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirements).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • A.B.A. Approved Paralegal Certificate preferred

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

D. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Preferred

  • Experience in employment law
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Litigation experience

Ideal Candidate
Candidate must have STRONG RECENT employment law paralegal experience; Good tenure; and preferably an ABA paralegal certification.. may not be necessary for strong experience. This is an HOURLY paid role with the opportunity for OT. $35-38/HR. Keep in mind that ALL candidates that are selected for interview will need to formally apply to the requisition.
