What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Conversational AI Chatbot Engineer you will be responsible for developing and enhancing the conversational capabilities of our chatbot. You will work with subject matter experts to design and implement new intents that provide a rich and context-aware user experience. You will also use various tools and techniques to test, debug, and optimize the chatbot performance and accuracy. You will be part of an innovative team that is advancing the field of conversational AI and creating interactive user experiences.
Intent Development:
- Lead the design and implementation of new intents, ensuring a rich and context-aware user experience.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts to gather insights and domain knowledge for effective intent creation.
- Utilize advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to enhance the chatbot's understanding of user input.
- Implement proactive intent suggestions to guide users seamlessly through interactions.
- Analyze user interaction data to identify patterns and trends, informing the creation of new intents for improved user engagement.
Conversational Enhancement:
- Leverage Language Models (LLMs) to make the chatbot more natural and conversational.
- Continuously refine and expand the chatbot's language capabilities to handle diverse user queries.
- Implement personalized responses based on user preferences and historical interactions.
- Explore and integrate emerging conversational AI technologies for cutting-edge user experiences.
- Drive continuous improvement of dynamic language translation capabilities using user feedback and machine learning.
- Monitor and optimize the chatbot's performance, ensuring it meets response time and accuracy benchmarks.
- Implement efficiency enhancements to streamline the chatbot's operations.
Support and Troubleshooting :
- Provide technical support to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the chatbot's functionality.
- Identify and resolve issues related to chatbot performance, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Conduct regular tests to ensure the chatbot understands and responds appropriately to user queries.
- Address platform issues promptly, restoring service caused by technical issues and outages.
- Analyze logs and error reports to identify patterns and potential issues affecting the chatbot's performance.
- Implement proactive measures to anticipate and prevent potential problems.
System Integration and REST API:
- Assist in the seamless integration of the chatbot with various systems and REST APIs.
- Ensure robust communication between the chatbot and external applications.
- Perform routine maintenance to the platform(s) including patching, upgrading, and resolving technical issues.
System Management, Quality, and Data Integrity/Security
- Manage routine maintenance tasks on the platform(s), including patching, upgrading, and resolving technical issues.
- Oversee the overall health and performance of the chatbot system.
- Ensure the integrity and security of user data processed by the chatbot.
- Implement measures to address and mitigate data-related issues promptly.
- Implementation and maintenance of quality assurance processes for chatbot development.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices in conversational AI.
What You Should Bring:
Technical Proficiency:
- Strong programming skills, with expertise in languages such as Python, Java, or similar.
- In-depth understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and methodologies.
- Experience with conversational AI frameworks and libraries.
- Proficient in integrating chatbots with various systems and REST APIs.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to integration and data exchange.
- Familiarity with Language Models (LLMs) and their applications in enhancing conversational AI.
- Proven experience in training and fine-tuning chatbots for improved performance.
- Knowledge of chatbot development frameworks, like Kore.AI, Yellow.AI, Microsoft Bot Framework, Dialogflow, or Rasa.
- Ability to design and implement conversational flows, intents, and entities.
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms, especially those used in text and language processing.
- Experience in training and fine-tuning machine learning models for chatbot applications.
- Strong understanding of natural language processing and understanding (NLP and NLU).
- Knowledge of popular NLP libraries and tools.
- Strong understanding of system management, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with content creators, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues related to chatbot functionality, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Proactive approach to conduct regular tests for continuous improvement.
Project Management:
- Experience working within project management tools, such as Jira, to track tasks, issues, and project progress.
- Collaborate with the development team to prioritize and implement new features.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Quality Assurance:
- Implementation and maintenance of quality assurance processes for chatbot development.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices in conversational AI.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. High School Diploma with 7+ years of relevant work experience in Computer Science along with programming experience will be considered.
- Proficient and demonstratable experience in JSON coding and JavaScript required.
- Firm understanding of RESTful APIs and web services.
- Ability to integrate chatbots with external APIs and services.
- 1-3 years proven experience in developing and enhancing conversational AI chatbots.
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

- Position located in Indianapolis, Indiana working in a hybrid model.
- Travel: ~10%
