Min Rate = $134,430.00 / Max Rate = $201,635.00

 

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the design, planning, implementation and maintenance of all Clinical Pharmacy programs. This individual displays competence in the 5 core health care competencies of interdisciplinary team work, quality improvement, evidence based practice, patient focused care and informatics. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager also assists the Director with organizational planning, compliance with regulatory standards, fiscal management setting and maintaining standards of pharmacy practice, coordinating services, and providing for the professional growth of staff. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is directly responsible for supervision of Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacist Specialist Infection Disease, Pharmacy Residents and Pharmacy Interns. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will act as the Pharmacy Residency Program Director; directly responsible for design and management of the Pharmacy Residency Program including adherence to all American Society of Health-System Pharmacist’s Residency accreditation standards.

 

Works with interdisciplinary teams

  1. Acts as a resource to ensure consistent application of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA).
  2. Assists the Director to develop, implement and maintain a recruitment and retention plan in collaboration with staff and interdisciplinary teams.
  3. Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration using team processes for change and decision-making.
  4. Creates an environment which recognizes and values interdisciplinary roles and differences in staff, physicians, patients and community.
  5. Acts as the Department of Pharmacy representative at Resuscitation Committee, Special Care Committee, and the Department of Medicine.

Values communication and relationship building

  1. Delivers oral presentations to diverse audiences on pharmacy, healthcare, and/or organizational
  2. Produces relevant written materials to address pharmacy, healthcare, and/or organizational issues.
  3. Utilizes active listening skills and is responsive to concerns.

  5. Confirms positive behaviors and confronts/manages negative behaviors of staff, physicians, peers, and other hospital employees.

  8. Identifies education and orientation needs of existing and potential pharmacy staff.
  9. Assists the Director to identify strategies for clear and consistent communication 24/7, (e.g., staff meetings, newsletters, staff huddles, email).
  10. Designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs 24/7 using various teaching/learning methodologies.
  11. Creates opportunities for employees to be involved in decision-making.

Utilizes informatics and business skills

  1. Provides input to help the Director to develop, implement and monitor a sound fiscal plan for the department based on relevant data and best practice (operating/capital).
  2. Assists the Director to review monthly operating reports, and submit financial analysis/justification for variances with written action plan.
  3. Assists the Director to develop, implement, and monitor a staffing plan which assesses nursing and patient needs and assigns pharmacy personnel to provide services based on the levels of staff expertise available.
  4. Demonstrates active participation in application of informatics resources.
  5. Educates patient care team members on financial implications of patient care decisions.
  6. Demonstrates advanced competence/skill with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet search engines and technology based communication programs, (e.g., Outlook).
  7. Uses telecommunications devices as per CVPH guidelines.
  8. Participates in the evaluation of information systems in the practice setting.
  9. Manages applications for structured data entry and analysis (e.g., productivity measuring systems, acuity levels).
  10. Directly responsible for planning and conducting The Pharmacy Committee and Medication Safety Committee.

Applies leadership and professional practice skills

  1. Demonstrates ongoing professional development and lifelong learning in self and staff.
  2. Provides clinical coaching and career counseling to staff and aspiring leaders.
  3. Participates in the CVPH Strategic Plan; develops and communicates a consistent strategic plan for the department.
  4. Assists the Director in the application of methods to hold staff accountable (i.e. standard, strategic plan).
  5. Demonstrates accountability for job performance and supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization.
  6. Assists the Director to develop and facilitate a model of collaborative professional practice, (e.g., builds a network of practice colleagues and resources).
  7. Defines the department’s/unit’s scope of services and major aspects of care based upon the population served.
  8. Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating standards of care and standards of practice based on the patient population, relevant professional standards, and evidenced based practice/research.
  9. Assists the Director in assuring that pharmacy is practiced appropriately for the patient population served.
  10. Ensures that care providers practice in roles as allowed by NYS law, other regulatory agencies, applicable governing laws and ethical standards of practice.
  11. Assists in the plan to ensure staff competence, and professional development.
  12. Completes staff performance evaluations in the timeframe as outlined by CVPH’s policies
  13. Provides clear and consistent performance feedback to staff.
  14. Schedules routine off-shift and weekend availability, targeting off-shift on a monthly basis and weekend availability quarterly.
  15. Helps to identify a succession plan for key unit positions.
  16. Directly responsible for the oversight and management of the Pharmacy Residency Program to ensure compliance with ASHP standards.
  17. Reports required safety data to local, state, and federal agencies.

Applies quality and patient focused care

  1. Assists the director to lead successful performance improvement initiatives demonstrating expertise.
  2. Utilizes research findings for the establishment of standards and practices.
  3. Supports the organization-wide patient safety program.
  4. Supports safety surveys, responding and acting on safety recommendations.
  5. Articulates the organizational and departmental/unit quality improvement goals and objectives.
  6. Assists in development, implementation and evaluation of a performance improvement program which incorporates clinical data, service excellence, and quality improvement and risk management.
  7. Maintains all aspects of the Smat Pump Library.
  8. Reviews all adverse drug reactions and medication errors to determine necessary corrective action.
  1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.
  2. Current NYS Pharmacist License required.
  3. Board of Pharmacotherapy Specialist Certification required
  4. Residency Pharmacy Certification preferred.
  5. Institute for Greater Leadership or comparable program certification preferred.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  7. Five years of Clinical Pharmacy experience required.
  8. Three years of supervisory experience required.
  9. Experience with IV Smart Pump Technology and automated dispensing machines required.
  10. Experience with prepackaging systems preferred.
  11. Experience with MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Pharmacy order entry, Patient history documentation systems, data mining software and IV Smart Pump analytics required.

As applicable, the individual has training / competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
