Job description
Are you an experienced Controls Engineer who is a natural born leader?
Jewett Automation is a fast-growing, industrial automation and systems integration company seeking a qualified Controls Engineer to assist with designing custom automation equipment in support of our clients’ needs. The candidate will need to be able to complete clean-slate design of machinery / equipment for the automation industry; this will need to be completed by themselves or with a team of engineers / designers. The successful candidate will enjoy collaborative environments, demonstrate critical thinking, superior problem solving, a strong work ethic, and organizational skills. The job is based in Richmond, Virginia. Some limited travel is expected.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design and implement electrical systems for automation equipment.
Troubleshooting, repairing and conducting tests and inspections.
Collaborating with other engineers and technicians.
Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Explore and introduce advanced automation solutions that enhance safety and quality, increase efficiency, and cut costs and production times.
Create software to manage and control automation equipment, tailored to different hardware needs and data collection methods.
Plan, oversee, fine-tune, and execute projects, while juggling shifting priorities and resources to meet operational objectives.
Qualifications:
BS or AS degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and skills.
3-5 years’ of shown experience in electrical and/or controls engineering in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in reading and building schematics for machines.
Experience with AutoCAD electrical and/or EPlan software.
Proficient in using electrical test equipment.
Proficiency in ABB, Fanuc, or Kuka robotic programming.
Proficiency in programming Rockwell RSLogix 5000 software, FactoryTalk View, and FactoryTalk View Designer.
Proficiency in vision inspection systems Cognex or Keyence.
Proficiency in Servo design and programming.
Good aptitude for equipment problem-solving and related issues.
Experienced in trouble shooting mechanical systems (strong mechanical aptitude).
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to lead teams in the execution of work and resolution of issues.
Working environment:
The facility is air-conditioned in summer & heated in winter.
Facility can occasionally be loud, especially in local areas where grinding or machine testing is taking place. Earplugs are provided and required where posted.
