COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client develops life-changing medicines for patients using advanced structure-based and computational drug discovery technology. The company’s platform combines the latest advancements in visualization of molecular interactions, computational chemistry, and data integration to design orally available, superior small molecule medicines that overcome current limitations of biologic and peptide drugs. They are advancing a clinical-stage pipeline of differentiated treatments focused on chronic diseases with high unmet need, including cardiovascular, metabolic, and pulmonary conditions.
LOCATION: South San Francisco, CA. Hybrid. 3 days per week.
Position Summary The Accounting Manager role requires a strong foundation in accounting principles. This role is responsible for, but not limited to, the accuracy of prepaid, fixed asset accounting, lease accounting, expense accruals, intercompany and allocations.
Essential Duties and responsibilities - PREPAIDS:
- Proper recording of prepaid activities, including addition and amortization across multiple entities and multiple currencies.
- Participate in the automation project by setting up prepaid schedules and running monthly amortization.
- Monitor and reconcile the prepaid module to the general ledger on a regular basis.
- FIXED ASSETS:
- Proper recording of fixed assets activities, including addition, disposals, depreciation, impairment and movement of fixed assets across multiple entities and multiple currencies. Prepare fixed assets journals with adequate support documents.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of fixed asset data, including descriptions, locations, useful lives, and depreciation methods.
- Monitor and reconcile fixed asset sub-ledgers to the general ledger on a regular basis. Prepare and maintain fixed assets roll forward schedules.
- Own, implement and maintain internal controls related to fixed asset accounting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Assign and distribute asset tags.
- Coordinate periodic physical inventories and reconciliations to verify the existence and condition of fixed assets.
- Analyze and interpret fixed asset data, identifying trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
- Development and maintain policy and procedure documents.
- LEASE ACCOUNTING:
- Proper recording of lease journal entries.
- Assist with set-up of all new leases and validation of lease data and attributes.
- Maintain lease schedules.
- Monitor monthly rent billing to ensure proper GL coding.
- Review annual CAM billing.
- Calculate asset retirement obligations for those fixed assets to which AROs are applicable.
- ACCRUALS:
- Proper recording of expense accruals utilizing open PO report, accrual tracker and vendor input.
- Meet with business owners to determine the completeness and reasonableness of accrual amounts.
- Evaluate the sufficiency of accruals at period end through critical consideration of balances, trends, and FP&A and business-owner input.
- INTERCOMPANY AND ALLOCATIONS:
- Proper recording of operating expenses to affiliates by project code.
- Allocate facility expenses to affiliates.
- Review the accuracy of cross charges.
- Prepare intercompany invoices for settlements.
- Prepare reconciliations and review the offsetting balances. Resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the ongoing development of the intercompany processes, improvements and policies.
- OTHER TASKS:
- Reconcile all the GL accounts assigned.
- Prepare flux analysis and provide explanations for variances for the GL accounts assigned.
- Prepare equity roll forward.
- Compile management review package.
- Provide support for the audits, providing necessary documentation and supporting schedules.
- Development and maintain policy and procedure documents.
- Other duties as assigned.
- CORE COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are a must.
- Exposure in foreign currencies is highly desired.
- Strong work ethic, including sound judgment, outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently.
- Excellent understanding of GAAP accounting principles, specifically related to the areas aforementioned.
- Results and detailed-oriented mindset with an opportunistic eye toward process improvements.
- Must be able to collaborate and communicate (oral and written) effectively.
- Biotech experience is a plus.
- Experience using NetSuite is a plus.
REQUIREMENTS Education - BA/BS degree in accounting
Experience - 7-10 years of accounting experience
Licenses or Certifications Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $120,000-$155,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
