Job Details: - Reports to Member Success Coordinator
- Program: Youth Action Project Young Scholars
- Stipend: Approximately $1125 bi-weekly, plus an education award of up to $1,824.07.
- Term of Service: March 2024 - June 2024.
- Location: San Bernardino, CA
Goal: To support Youth Action Project Young Scholars in developing tools to support the recruitment and retention of AmeriCorps members.
Position Overview:
- To strengthen the recruitment and retention of Youth Action Project Young Scholars AmeriCorps members, the AmeriCorps Recruitment Fellow will be dedicated to expanding and building the program’s capacity and their partnering organizations to recruit and retain members effectively.
- The AmeriCorps Recruitment Fellow will work with the Youth Action Project Young Scholars team to expand community outreach, build a social media presence through active posting and coordination with partner agencies, and promote the transformational impact of the program on the populations with whom they work. Partner agencies will become more efficient and effective through increased community awareness, volunteer and national service participant interest, retention, and new partnerships with institutions of higher learning and local businesses/foundations.
- Identifying and implementing effective recruitment strategies to increase the capacity of Youth Action Project Young Scholars is a significant component of the AmeriCorps Recruitment Fellow role, as are the creation and execution of retention strategies, planning for and hosting recruitment events, and developing ways to build and appreciate partnerships.
Areas of Responsibility and Essential Functions:
The AmeriCorps Recruitment Fellow will provide capacity-building support to Youth Action Project Young Scholars as defined by the achievement of the following outcomes:
- An increase in capacity building
- An increase in AmeriCorps member applications received.
- An increase in the number of AmeriCorps member slots filled.
Member Activities:
All member activities will aim to collectively raise awareness of national service opportunities statewide and strengthen the host program's ability to adequately serve their beneficiaries by leveraging all slots awarded.
The AmeriCorps Recruitment Fellow will create and refine systems to recruit and retain quality AmeriCorps members.
The AmeriCorps Recruitment Fellow activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Be well-versed in the purpose of the program and its recruitment timelines.
- Gather and maintain updated information on the application process and timelines for the program.
- In partnership with program staff, conduct a Capacity Needs Assessment and develop a program-specific action plan to diagnose and treat the recruitment capacity-building needs of the program.
- Support program staff in identifying, developing, and fostering partnerships to increase outreach to potential AmeriCorps Members.
- Participate in any California Volunteers recruitment initiatives on behalf of the program.
- Expand community outreach through presentations at colleges and career fairs.
- Build a social media presence through active posting and coordination with partner agencies.
- Ensure the program’s website is up to date for recruitment purposes.
- Ensure the program’s service opportunities are posted on Volunteer Match/CV’s Californians For All platform.
- Ensure the program’s information on CV’s website is up to date and of high quality.
- Develop other marketing materials for recruitment purposes.
- Track and maintain data regarding progress toward achieving project outcomes.
- Implement strategies to keep AmeriCorps Alumni engaged in promoting national service.
- Conduct weekly check-in meetings with program staff to set goals and discuss progress toward target outcomes.
- Provide follow-up information or support to potential candidates or applicants in the pipeline.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED is required; a minimum of 48 college semesters or 60 college quarter units is strongly preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to school site(s), YAP office, and meeting sites as required.
- Must be available and willing to serve occasional evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to lead program activities while ensuring student safety; activity may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and outdoor exposure.
Term of Service:
Completion of 450 service and training hours in the 2023-2024 academic year is required. T he service term begins in March 2023 and ends in June 2024. Service is required Monday through Friday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours served when needed. Scheduled hours are subject to change. Required participation in national days of service such as 9/11 National Day of Service, Martin Luther King Day of Service, Cesar Chavez Day of Service, AmeriCorps State Service Day, AmeriCorps Week
As a benefit, Members with qualifying education loans can apply for loan forbearance at the start of service through the My AmeriCorps portal if they qualify. Total living allowance and education award amounts are based on performing the minimum hours of the term of service and successfully completing the program requirements.
