Job description
Backroads is always looking for new ways to expand its reach in the travel agency community, an integral part of Backroads' annual sales, and we are currently seeking a sales representative for the Western region. Our mission is to continue to grow this channel by strengthening current relationships and creating new ones. In this role, the candidate will focus on identifying, developing, and fostering strong partnerships with travel agency executives and frontline advisors in the US and Canada.
Backroads is seeking a strong candidate who can recognize opportunities and implement sales strategies to further grow agency sales. The ideal candidate is an outgoing, motivated leader who loves to connect and network with people of all ages and has a firm understanding of sales and marketing. Candidate will create, develop, and successfully deliver Backroads sales and marketing seminars to both advisors and potential guests. This role requires thorough follow-up, creativity, enthusiasm, and a passion for active travel.
Job duties include, but not limited to :
- Proactive outreach to new agencies in designated region to identify the key contacts in the office and introduce Backroads. Develop a relationship with key contacts.
- Work with agency executives of key accounts in designated region to foster relationships and develop new sales.
- Analyze and determine an agency's potential to sell Backroads, set sales goals, develop and implement a marketing plan.
- Work closely with the Sales and Marketing departments on a strategic plan to develop new agency sales and programs.
- Set and track quarterly and annual sales goals for designated region.
- Schedule, create and present webinars on various topics to small groups and large audiences of travel advisors (B2B) and/or potential guests (B2C) at client events.
- Share and distribute BR marketing tools and resources for travel advisors to promote and sell Backroads, coach on best practices for success.
- Assist Berkeley HQ with advisor calls and emails inquiring about reservations, availability, marketing, and trip details (using Salesforce and Softrip, training provided).
- Track all communication and activity monthly to report on traction and ROI.
- Provide monthly sales reports for designated territory.
- Host advisor FAM trips as needed.
- Post social media content on the Backroads TA Facebook community page and other accounts.
Job Requirements - Minimum 3 years' experience in the travel industry as a supplier sales representative.
- Based in the United States (flexible location) and is eligible for work in the US.
- Established relationships with agency owners, managers and front-line advisors in Virtuoso, Travel Leaders, Signature, etc.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, including public presentations, training, and webinars.
- Well organized, detail-oriented, and has a strong sense of ownership.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of Salesforce preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 360 suite: Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point and Webinar conferencing.
- Willing to travel 1-2 weeks per month to key agencies in region of the US and Canada for sales calls, presentations, client events and industry meetings/conferences.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Willing to work evening and weekend events when required.
- International travel experience preferred.

New hires are typically offered a starting salary between the minimum and midpoint of the range to ensure there is continued opportunity for salary progression during your employment at Backroads, reflecting our commitment to rewarding ongoing dedication, high performance, and significant contributions to our team. Our office roles are onsite in our Berkeley headquarters, unless specifically noted as 'available for remote'. We do allow one work-from-home day a week, as well as one work-from-anywhere week per year. This pay range is intended for in-person work in our Berkeley, CA headquarters. Pay ranges for remote-eligible roles will be subject to adjustment based on the geolocation of the employee.
