Responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands on knowledge and experience as an Apprentice Line Worker and be a part of our electric crew in Jackson, MN during the construction season. This is a temporary position beginning in May and may work up to 1,000 hours. Under the direct supervision of Journeyman Line Worker, an Apprentice Line Worker, assists in many essential tasks in the operating and maintaining of the municipal electric utility distribution system under contract to MRES in a safe and efficient manner by performing the following duties.

  1. Assists qualified personnel with the operation, construction, reconstruction, maintenance, and repair of the electrical distribution systems and associated equipment.

  2. Assists qualified personnel with the maintenance of inventory, time, and material records for all work performed.

  3. Operates the electric distribution vehicles and related equipment.

  4. Assists qualified personnel with the operation and maintenance of the electric generating plant systems and associated equipment, if community has that type of equipment.

  5. Assists qualified personnel with the installation, maintenance, testing, and calibration of all metering equipment, substation systems and controls in accordance with established operating and maintenance procedures.

  6. Assists qualified personnel with customer meter installations and disconnects.

  7. Assists qualified personnel with the installation and maintenance of the public outdoor lighting systems.

  8. Assists qualified personnel with the inspection, monitoring, and documentation of the operations, maintenance and testing of distribution, generation and associated equipment and facilities as directed.

  9. Performs all work in accordance with all applicable safety policies, programs, procedures, and reporting systems to assure a safe working environment for all personnel and the general public.

  10. Performs general maintenance of the electric distribution vehicles, equipment, and storage areas.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), successfully completed at least one year of line worker program training with an approved trade school.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and health card, obtain first aid certification, competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and pole top rescue.
