What we are looking for: We are seeking a talented and creative individual to join our team as a Donor Engagement Copywriter. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping and enhancing the donor experience by crafting compelling and impactful written content. Collaborating closely with the Annual Giving, Stewardship, and Events teams, you will contribute to the development of materials that inspire, inform, and engage our valued donors. What’s a typical day look like? Content Creation:
- Develop persuasive and emotionally resonant copy for a variety of donor communication materials, including appeals, newsletters, impact reports, and event invitations.
- Tailor messaging to align with the unique characteristics and preferences of different donor segments.
- Adapt copy for various channels, including print, digital, and social media, ensuring that the message resonates effectively in each format.
Collaborative Engagement:
- Work collaboratively with the Annual Giving team to create compelling fundraising appeals that motivate donors to contribute.
- Collaborate with our Stewardship team to develop content that reinforces gratitude, showcases impact, and enhances the overall donor experience.
- Collaborate with our Events team to craft engaging and creative content for event invitations, emails, programs, and other collateral materials such as scripts or talking points, to drive attendance and convey the value of donor participation.
- Work with the Events team to prepare scripts/written remarks for event formal programs.
- Collaborate with our Communication team to integrate donor engagement content into broader organizational messaging.
- Serves as a resource for planning and strategy development for the Donor Engagement team.
Brand Voice and Consistency:
- Maintain and reinforce KU Endowments’ brand voice and messaging consistency across all donor engagement materials.
- Ensure that written content aligns with the KU Endowments’ values, mission, and strategic priorities.
Feedback and Iteration:
- Solicit and incorporate feedback from stakeholders, including donors and internal teams, to refine and enhance copy for continuous improvement.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in donor communication to bring innovative approaches to the role.
- Regular and reliable attendance is essential for this position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What’s required to be considered: - Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in journalism or public relations.
- Five or more years of experience in public relations, media relations, marketing communications, or higher education administration with evidence of increasing levels of responsibility.
What separates the best from the rest?- Proven experience in copywriting, preferably in a nonprofit or fundraising context.
- Exceptional storytelling and communication skills.
- Experience working in and with Associated Press Style (AP).
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with diverse teams.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of Donor Engagement strategies and the ability to tailor content accordingly.
- Demonstrated discretion in handling sensitive donor information with integrity.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 project collaboration tools, such as Microsoft (MS) SharePoint, MS Teams, MS Forms, MS Project, and MS Planner.
