Associate Director, Publishing (USA-Remote)

Job description

The Associate Director is a seasoned publishing professional who drives the development of new business opportunities through professional partnerships and commercial advertising activity. They oversee growth in quality and financial performance of the titles they manage. This requires exemplary knowledge of their portfolio, the market, opportunities, and challenges. The Associate Director is responsible for the overall management of a list of Targeted titles and assigned editorial staff to include financial oversight, managing the editor/board chair, developing relationships with societies, and strategic development.

An Associate Director has strong financial analysis skills; is experienced in the management and execution of major projects with strong problem solving-skills; has excellent organizational and planning skills; and is a model communicator, collaborator, negotiator, and presenter. Support of internal and external commercial advertising representatives to expand digital offerings, sponsorships, and grants is also required.

The Associate Director will take a leadership role on assigned team as well as collaborate across the Society Segment and in RFPs where advertising or editorial oversight is needed. The Associate Director will use knowledge of various metrics to drive revenue and web traffic/engagement, such as Kantar, eJP, social media, eNLs, and Impact Factor. Associate Director is responsible for helping to define and implement segment strategy. In addition, the Associate Director is responsible for engaging direct reports.

Qualifications

Education: BA/BS degree preferred or equivalent experience required

Required Experience:

• 8+ years of publishing experience

• 3+ years managing a team (i.e. setting goals, handling performance reviews, coaching, etc.)

• STM publishing preferred

• Strong financial analysis, budgeting and financial modeling skills

• Experience with defining product requirements for high-traffic media websites

• Experience in management and execution of major projects with strong problem-solving skills

• Experience working with internal and external commercial advertising representatives (i.e. sales)

• Successfully acquired and/or launched new society or proprietary products

• MS Office; proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook 365 and OneDrive

Travel:

• 10-15%, including domestic travel to conferences, strategic planning meetings, etc.

• Some international travel may be required
