Responsibilities
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems is seeking a Roadway Engineer responsible for the design and preparation of plan submittals related to highway and arterial roadway design, complex intersection design, local roadways, site design, bridge replacement/rehabilitation, traffic design, drainage design for DOTs and other various agencies. This is a technical position with management and business related opportunities.
- Perform engineering and project management tasks related to the planning and design of transportation facilities such as freeways, arterials, intersections, railroad and drainage. Lead a Design Team that produces plans, specifications, cost estimates and schedules for transportation construction projects. Duties include project management, scheduling, budgeting, QC/QA tasks, preparing engineering reports, performing engineering calculations and analysis and furnishing technical documentation for design projects. Works tasks generally pertain to planning and design functions for highways, arterials, traffic, drainage and site design. Attendance at meetings and interaction with clients should be expected. Effective written and oral communication skills are imperative.
- Lead the design team in completion of technical efforts of design projects including roadway, traffic, drainage and site design projects and reports.
- Answer any questions and review shop drawings during the construction phase of the project.
- Participate in business development activities.
- Controls project plan by approving design, specifications, plans, and schedules changes.
- Responsible for client satisfaction.
- Assist the Director of Operations and Managing Principals in the implementation of the marketing plan and business development goals established for the office.
- Serves as a technical specialist for the organization in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes for an assigned area of responsibility.
- Keeps abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization for the purposes of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new programs warranted by such developments.
- Provide team leadership. Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of a staff of engineers and technicians.
- Responsible for finding work for team members in order for the team to meet utilization goals.
- Evaluate the progress of the staff and results obtained and recommend changes to achieve overall objectives.
- Maintains project staff job results by planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Mentor other employees.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
- Relays company goals and direction to team members.
- Primary contact for employee problems.
- Initiates and maintains extensive contracts with key people in other organizations.
QualificationsWhat you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- At least 10 years of design experience
- Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer.
- Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems depending on engineering discipline: AutoCAD; MicroStation/GeoPak; In Roads, Land Desktop, and Civil 3D.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems.
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
- Actively advocates for full inclusion in the workplace, fostering an environment that welcomes diversity and values equity for all employees, partners, clients, and the communities that TranSystems serves.
What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- At least 10 years of experience, including project management
- Experience working with KDOT, the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, and other Midwest municipalities
Work Environment:
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
