Job description
Gateway Community Services Maine's Education Program is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Tutor to support students from 5th to 12th grade, primarily from immigrant, refugee, asylee, and asylum-seeking backgrounds. The selected candidate will assist students with their homework and other learning needs.

Responsibilities:
- Provide academic support to students in grades 5-12, focusing on homework assistance and addressing learning needs.
- Conduct tutoring sessions either via Zoom or in person, depending on student preference and safety guidelines.
- Assist students with understanding and completing assignments across various subjects, including but not limited to math, science, language arts, and social studies.
- Adapt tutoring strategies to meet the individual needs and learning styles of each student.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and program coordinators to ensure alignment of tutoring goals and expectations.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress.
- Collaborate with other tutors and program staff to share best practices and support student success.
- Attend training sessions and workshops as required to enhance tutoring skills and cultural competency.
- Uphold the organization's values of inclusivity, respect, and support for diverse communities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, relevant subject area, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, or working with youth preferred.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the unique needs and challenges faced by immigrant, refugee, asylee, and asylum-seeking populations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate varying student schedules and learning styles.
- Commitment to supporting the educational success and holistic well-being of students.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in languages commonly spoken by the target population (e.g., Arabic, French, Somali) is a plus but not required.
