MISSION-DRIVEN ORGANIZATION
The Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable (MSBWR) is a statewide intergenerational network dedicated to advancing women’s economic security through policy advocacy, increasing civic engagement and voter participation among black women and girls, developing transformational leaders for long-term movement building, and engaging in community outreach and rapid response projects.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Deputy Director provides day to day oversight, ensuring compliance with the organization’s standards and procedures. This role has direct oversight of the organization’s operational effectiveness, infrastructure, staffing, and program effectiveness, as well as assists the Executive Director with executing the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The Deputy Director leads by example while creating and maintaining a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work culture. This position serves as Executive Director in their absence.
R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S
Operations
● Oversees all aspects of the organization’s day to day operations & the development, implementation and evaluation of all MSBWR programs and services.
● Oversee and manage staff: hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, and development.
● Evaluate and manage staffing levels.
● Manage and evaluate work plans, objectives, and goals, ensuring the operation & programs are running effectively, efficiently, safely, and collaboratively in accordance with Bounty & Soul standard processes, policies, and procedures.
● Oversee the data collection, reporting, and record-keeping requirements ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completion.
● Provide oversight of intern al operations, including Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Governance, IT and Facilities Management
● HR priorities include development and implementation of effective recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits, training and professional development policies; sustaining an internal culture that promotes initiative, appropriate risk taking, learning, cooperation, equity, and mutual respect.
● Financial priorities include budgeting, reporting, audits, grants management, and compliance.
● IT priorities include ensuring effective information systems, platforms, equipment, and cybersecurity to support on-site and remote work.
● Provide high-level input to inform decisions the organization makes around both legal and financial risks, such as contracts and insurance policies.
● Provide high-level input to inform staffing decisions related to growth, performance and accountability.
● Assist in improving and monitoring the organization’s performance reporting systems (including program and fundraising data).
Programmatic
● Assist in developing high level strategies and ensuring the alignment of organizational resources to support program success.
● Lead staff in long-term program planning, establishing outcomes and clear project plans.
● Work with the senior leadership team to develop and evaluate program strategies and goals.
Staff Management and Resource Advisement
● Act as a resource advisor to staff to support success in their roles.
● Provide staff training and coaching to support professional growth.
● Ensure staff have the documented processes and guidance for operational success.
● Conduct staff evaluations, manage talents, and implement systems of rewards and recognition.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, accounting, public administration, human resource management or a related field.
● Master’s degree preferred.
● Certificate in nonprofit management, project management, organizational development, human resource management or related expertise a plus.
Required Experience
● A minimum of seven (7) years senior management
experience.
● Proven track record of strategic planning, organizational development, financial management, human resource management, nonprofit / business / government
management.
● Ability to lead the operations of a mission driven organization.
● Ability to lead an impactful staff team.
