The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to developing a new graduate program in Native American Studies. To help the appointee establish their research program, two courses will be released in the first year of contract, summer salary will be provided in the first year, and start-up funds will be provided.

The University of Montana is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer and has a strong institutional commitment to the principle of diversity in all areas. Abundant recreational opportunities, in the surrounding state and national forests and in nearby Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park, complement a thriving intellectual atmosphere.

The Department of Native American Studies designs its curriculum to provide a study of American Indians from a holistic viewpoint, by focusing on their history, knowledge systems, resilience, and efforts toward decolonization within tribal communities. Courses are designed for both Native American and non-Native American students so they can better understand human similarities and celebrate diversity, thereby leading to the development of better communications and cross-cultural relationships.
