Summary

The Linda and Ben Nighthorse Campbell Child and Family Center (CCFC) is a multi-purpose facility that trains teachers, parents, and other advocates for young children. The center provides quality care and education for young children ages 1-6 (including children with disabilities). The center supports the state-approved Early Childhood Teacher Licensure Program (birth-Grade 3) that is located within the Fort Lewis College Teacher Education Department. This position provides the nutritional needs for all classrooms and supports the program in numerous other ways.
Support Staff position is a 40 hours/week, 12 months/year (1.0 FTE) exempt staff position in the Campbell Child and Family Center. The position will expedite and oversee the operation of the food program in accordance with CACFP and Campbell Center policies, procedures, and state licensing standards to provide an educational, nurturing, and safe environment for children, parents, and staff. Under general supervision, the support staff member will oversee the operation of the food program including; hygiene, meal preparation, food distribution to classrooms, refrigeration of lunches, and ensure adherence to the Child Care Food Programs guidelines as well as all health regulations regarding food storage and preparation.
The Support Staff person must be professional in their approach with staff, children, parents, visitors, campus students, and employees; including work-study students and physical plant personnel. Establish a positive rapport with parents which fosters mutual trust and respect through education, counseling, and effective communication. The person in this position works under the supervision of the Director of the Campbell Center.

Duties

Provide for the nutritional needs of the children enrolled at the center by writing and posting balanced menus, preparing meals, and distributing these items to the classrooms at appropriate time
Organize and maintain the kitchen area
Post menus one week in advance
Follow regulations regarding food service for the program
Maintain standards of sanitation, health, safety, and nutrition
Practice safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage
Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, dishes, or silverware according to regulations
Inventory kitchen supplies
Purchase all food and necessary supplies needed to provide food service (with Director approval)
Prepare daily food items and beverages and cook simple foods?according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or portions, using proper safety precautions and sanitary measures
Maintain a clean and sanitized work area
Serve food to the classrooms at designated times
Properly handle, date, and store food in designated containers
Procure food for the meals served, keeping a detailed inventory of all items purchased and used for the CACFP Food Program. 
Keep and organize all necessary documentation to satisfy the CACFP food program including past menus, all food receipts, ROMS, recipes used, and meal production plans.
Maintain standards of sanitation, health, safety, and nutrition and practice safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage as established by the Department of Public Health and Environment.
Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508.
Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards
Fill in for classroom teachers for bathroom breaks or lunch breaks if needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Requirements

HS diploma or equivalent
Familiarity with the CACFP food program and its bookkeeping components
Knowledgeable of health and sanitation practices 
Knowledge of nutritional needs for young children
Some culinary training 
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Wash dishes after preparing meals and children's dishes
Excellent customer services skills
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications and typing competency
Ability to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking
Valid driver?s license
Demonstrated sensitivity to, and ease working with, diverse populations while exercising utmost confidentiality
