Job Summary

Primary responsibility for providing high-level strategic and tactical analysis and coordination of financial/budgetary matters throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on behalf of the Executive Assistant Dean and the Dean. Develops financial scenarios and business plans to explore the financial viability of alternative organizational structures, programs, and capital projects. In addition, provides direction to School of Veterinary Medicine departments and centers regarding budgetary issues, financial controls and accountability, business information, special project analyses, rate development review/approval, and financial management. Leads financial analyst advisory group to provide guidance and and insight to address unit-level financial problems or issues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays based on workload.

Travel between campus locations, and between on- and off-campus locations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field or experience developing and analyzing budget proposals and policies in a multi-fund source, public service environment. Experience/familiarity with automated management information systems and other tools for financial modeling, tracking, and analysis.

Expert knowledge and experience with financial policies, practices, and systems.

Experience identifying, collecting, and analyzing complex data from multiple sources. Skills to create and evaluate analytical approaches and financial models for use in complex budget and rate development and in resource analysis and allocation. Experience expertly using spreadsheet and database software to integrate and manipulate complex financial information.

Experience communicating complex information to diverse audiences with varying backgrounds.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

Skills to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities on multiple projects.

Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external constituents with tact and diplomacy.

Skills to create and evaluate analytical approaches and budget models for use in resource analysis and allocation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, business, or related field or equivalent experience preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

Substantial familiarity with campus and University-wide policies and procedures in administrative matters; in-depth knowledge of principles, policies, and procedures as they relate to financial/budgetary matters in the higher education setting; familiarity with fund accounting methods.

Working knowledge of various campus financial and human resources systems.
