Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Lab Testing and Calibration, the Associate Instrumentation Technician is responsible for hands-on learning of new skills and building knowledge of technical, analytical, and universal support for assigned laboratory and field testing funded by various stakeholders and commercial clients of MxV Rail. In this role, the individual will learn to set up, operate, maintain, and utilize instrumentation to gather data from physical test environments. Employees must fulfill the obligations herein without sacrificing safety or quality. The individual is responsible for supporting a teamwork culture and promoting a mutually respectful and cooperative environment at MxV Rail and field locations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Build a knowledge base and proficiency toward expertise in troubleshooting & maintenance of systems and equipment, including electrical (low voltage), mechanical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Develop skills and understanding of instrumentation installation, test machine setup and maintenance, data collection, and troubleshooting related to using transducers, data collection equipment, or hydraulic test equipment or the calibration of the same.
- Develop knowledge and proficiency in methods of collecting, analyzing, and properly submitting data in all forms associated with internal measurement standard operating procedures & data integrity norms.
- Develop basic skillset proficiency through mentorship and oversight by experienced technical leaders.
- Takes opportunities to communicate with management & teammates actively and openly regarding time, materials, & constraints of projects assigned.
- Conforms and promotes all MxV Rail Safety and Personnel policies, procedures, and culture.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Associate degree in a science or trade discipline or high school diploma with at least three years experience in a related & relevant field environment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Maintain a current and valid Colorado Class "R" Driver's License without restriction.
- Partial proficiency with basic Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in mechanical test systems design, mechanical design, or structural design.
- Proficient in hydraulic test systems and the ability to operate efficiently.
- Experience with basic computer programming, computer-based analysis, computer-aided design, and computer-based modeling.
- Proficient in testing methods, design, execution, data collection, analysis techniques, and reporting.
- Familiarity with rail, train operations, railroad signaling, and train control systems.

- Environment: Office and field environments. Must be able to walk in an industrial and/or railroad environment, including uneven surfaces such as ballast track and field terrains.
- Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents, and discerning wire colors.
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
- Travel: Travel up to 25% of the time, depending on workload/program location (s), is required.
- Physical: Able to lift moderate to heavy (50 lbs.) equipment as required. Bending, kneeling, climbing, and working at raised elevation.
- Location: Work location is onsite at our Keeler location in Pueblo, Colorado.
