In this role you'll interact with students in classrooms and perform administrative duties in an office. Working hours include regular school hours (8AM - 3PM) and additional time for meetings, planning, and school events. This role is pivotal in shaping an inclusive and supportive educational environment for students with special needs, ensuring they receive the resources and support necessary for their personal and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Assist in developing and implementing educational programs tailored to students with diverse learning needs.
- Oversee curriculum adaptation to ensure it meets the individual needs of special education students.
- Staff Supervision and Development:
- Supervise and evaluate teachers and other educational staff.
- Provide professional development opportunities and training for staff in special education practices and techniques.
- Student Support and Advocacy:
- Work directly with students, providing support and guidance.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of students with disabilities.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist in managing the school's day-to-day operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to special education.
- Family and Community Engagement:
- Collaborate with families to support the educational and developmental goals of students.
- Foster relationships with community organizations and stakeholders to enhance educational opportunities.
- Policy and Procedure Development:
- Assist in developing and updating school policies and procedures related to special education.
- Ensure that school practices are inclusive and cater to the diverse needs of students.
- Crisis Management:
- Address and manage emergencies or crises that may arise, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Certification in special education or school administration.
Experience:
- Extensive experience in special education, teaching, or educational administration.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in an educational setting is highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact effectively with students, staff, and families.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by students with disabilities.
