The Vehicle Motion and Embedded Controls – Evolving Business (VMEC-EB) organization is looking for Software Design and Release Engineer who will be responsible for the development, validation, and deployment of embedded controller products specific to

1. Chassis controllers outsourced SW (Driveline)

2. Chassis controllers outsourced SW (ARS &ICCM)

The SW DRE role requires an engineer with solid experience in electronic embedded controllers. You will be a member of a product development team that is focused on the delivery of high quality, validated outsourced software for one or more of GM’s future electric and/or ICE-based vehicle platforms. You will be responsible for managing embedded controller system software development, integration, validation, and deployment. Key engagement will occur between the supplier-based software delivery team, supplier residents, product owners, and vehicle program leadership. This role will have a high level of responsibility and performance will be measured on the quality and on-time deployment of assigned software and achieving business goals for software problem resolution, vehicle safety, warranty cost, quality, and service.

VMEC-EB is responsible for the development and deployment of complex embedded control system software. We specialize in software specific to propulsion, body and chassis control systems utilizing the principles of the Scaled Agile Framework. These controllers support cutting edge features, such active safety, autonomous, trailer braking, and crab walk. The race is on to deliver engaging, meaningful in-vehicle experiences! You can flex your teamwork muscles as you will be tasked with collaborating with several other areas of engineering and business units.

The main activities of the role are:

• Deliver a fully integrated software and calibration package that is on-time and with quality to one or more vehicle programs under development.
• Collaborate with Agile teams and software suppliers to continuously refine, prioritize and deploy system features.
• Serve as technical and implementation lead for software problem resolution during the vehicle development process. Visualize, prioritize, and manage issue resolution efforts that are aligned with program timing needs and fulfilling vehicle requirements.
• Manage software-focused sourcing documentation and provide technical expertise during the sourcing process.
• Track and report software readiness and delivery status to the product owner, program management and leadership.
• Responsible for engineering change management of software per GM’s Process of Engineering (PoE)
• Lead engineer, representing software, that will participate in the embedded controls module Product Development Team (PDT) meetings.
• Coordinate requirements and software design reviews with suppliers, algorithm, and software groups (e.g. DFMEA, DRBFM, Peer Reviews).
• Assure that production software meets PPAP requirements at appropriate saleable program gates.
• Responsible for reducing controllers’ warranty, related to software issues, to meet quality targets.
• Coordinate activities and manage a full test plan including required supplier testing, as well as all other testing required to validate software including, but not limited to applicable regulatory testing, subsystem integration testing, system safety testing, cybersecurity, etc.
• Work with the supplier to develop Validation Cross Reference Index (VCRI) to ensure all requirements are mapped to appropriate validation. Ensure supplier compliance and approve CICVAD protocols.
• Issue part saleable status based on successful completion of all required testing.
• Communicate, coordinate, and advise engineering departments, vehicle platform teams and supplier quality.

Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
• Knowledge of and minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in embedded controls system development. Including:
  • Control system integration and testing of hardware and software.
  • Controller hardware design and failure modes of electronic modules.
  • Vehicle electrical systems and serial data communications architectures.
  • System, software, and hardware requirements development and validation.

• Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms.
• High level of analytical ability where problems are complex and challenging to solve.
• Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills.
• Experienced at planning, preparing for and leading meetings.
• Proficient at presenting audience information and status to higher level of leadership.
• Effective interpersonal skills that focus and influence others, including those which may have priority differences from your own.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• Master’s degree in an engineering field
• 7-10 years of experience in vehicle chassis controls system development.
• Scaled Agile Framework training or certifications.
• Experience in the GM component specification, release, and validation processes.
• Experience with customer interface technologies.
• Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and electronic chassis systems.
• Knowledge of OBD-II diagnostics.
• Knowledge of automotive safety integrity levels (ASIL).
• DFSS Black Belt certification.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a global environment.

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center - Cole Engineering Center Tower or Milford Proving Ground - Bldg 31 - GPS Emissions three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

• Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is : $93,400 - $149,200 . Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
• Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
