Job description

Job Summary:

Assist the Director with the day-to-day operations of the University labor and employee relations functions. Schedule and assist with grievances and the union and non-union disciplinary process. Research employment and labor laws to provide support in administering University labor contracts. Provide campus supervisory training on a variety of topics.

Essential Functions:

65% Labor and employee relations. Schedule and assist the Director with the disciplinary process and facilitate supervisor/employee meetings. Schedule and assist with the union grievance process. Research labor agreements and assist in drafting proposed contractual language as needed. Respond to union requests for relevant data and collect information relevant to various administrative and legal matters.

20% Conduct and manage various projects as directed, including providing training and development to University employees and or groups. Assist in training campus supervisors on collective bargaining agreements and a wide range of topics. Administer the Apprenticeship and Job Enrichment Training Programs. Assist with follow-up on annual performance reviews. May administer campus surveys and collect data.

15% Research and policy formation; other duties as assigned.

Leadership:

Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of students.

Physical Requirements:

The job is physically comfortable; individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking, standing, etc. May occasionally lift very lightweight objects.

Working Conditions:

Standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions and/or minor heating/cooling or ventilation problems. Near continuous use (>70% of the time) of a video display terminal.

Additional Position Information:

Education: Requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree.

Required Qualifications: Requires a minimum of two years of experience in human resources or labor/employee relations activities. Strong analytical, research, problem solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to understand and apply federal and state laws preferred.
