• This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
• This position requires extensive traveling.
Job Description
The Assistant Football Coach (Defensive Backs) will provide support to the Head Coach and the Defensive Coordinator in all aspects of on field coaching, player development, academic success, recruiting, film study, practice organization, position meetings, scouting opponents, special teams coaching, and other duties as assigned. This position will potentially supervise: student assistant coaches, volunteer coaches and other assistant coaches.
All coaches have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and NAU with complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA.
Bylaw 10.1. Satisfactory rules knowledge and rules compliance are conditions of employment.
This position, in particular, will fully participate and cooperate in compliance related activities, procedures and evaluation. Coaches are held to strict NCAA guidelines regarding all of the following:
• Athletic Equipment and Apparel
• Coaching Staff Limits and Contracts
• Complimentary Admissions
• Employment of Student Athletes
• Financial Aid
• Institutional Camps and Clinics
• Institutional Certification of Compliance
• Playing and Practice Seasons
• Representatives of the University's Athletic Interests
• Rules Education
On Field Coaching - 35%
• Design and implementation of football drills and activities consistent with NCAA Division 1 colleges.
• With the safety of the student-athlete at the forefront, drills will focus on defensive pass defending, run defending, tackling, etc.
Position Meeting Lead - 30%
• Lead meetings for specified position group including video review of practice, review of past games, detailed breakdown of upcoming games, tests and quizzes as necessary.
Recruiting - 30%
• Recruiting student-athletes both on campus and in designated geographic area.
• Extensive travel, budgeting, pre visit phone calls, interaction with potential student-athletes, parents and guardians.
• On campus hosting for official and unofficial visits.
Other - 5%
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
• 2-4 years of college coaching experience.
• Must possess current AZ Driver's License.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Driving Requirement
Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Salary
Anticipated salary range is $47,634 - $59,542. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
